I just made some "crap stew" which is basically my throw a bunch of stuff in a pot stew. It changes but usually the constant is potatoes. I had potatoes, celery, onions, onion powder, garlic powder, butter, water and chicken stock and I love it. It was just a thrown together meal that I knew I could make in just a few minutes. Trying to get full before work.
Has anyone ever made "crap stew" before wherein you just throw things in a pot?
I think I'm going to go get me another bowl.

Sometimes you can come up with the most creative things that way though!

Hey there SomeCowGirl,
In my personal experience, Ive made a bunch of crap stew's even really crappy one's but most of them turn out to be great, you can't help it becomes some days it seems that your too lazy to get up and think too much of what to, so feel it up okay and be safe going to work.

Yes sometimes it just doesn't turn out the way you thought it would and then other times it's so good you want to figure out how to do it that exact way again. Today's stew was pretty good but I wish I had more to add to it. I may season the poatoes better next time.

I did once, I hate to cook but I just felt like making an old fashioned soup that would really be good for me but I think I put too much cabbage in it, it was horrible, I am not even sure cabbage is ok to put in a soup.

You can boil cabbage but as for it being in a soup or stew I am not sure. I thought about using some today in mine but then thought better of it. I am thinking of using the red cabbage and seeing if I can boil it just the same but not sure and don't want to ruin it either.

We call it 'anything stew' because any thing could be in it. Usually we have onions, potatoes, and carrots plus anything else we have. It usually turns out great. Enjoy your stew.

I have never had any "crap stew" before. Sounds fast and good though. I have thrown some mac and cheese meals together before that could have been called a "crap mix" though. I live mac and cheese so most anything goes good with it. I have put ham and peas in it. I have put tuna in it. It is kinda like a homemade helper meal I guess.

I've thought of being creative with mac n cheese before. We have a gas station called Sheetz here in NC, you may have them in TN, not sure how widely known they are. They have mac n cheese that is chili cheese, and it is delicious, I love it. I thought of baking together some mac n cheese, I saw this one woman put all sorts of stuff in hers, half and half, croutons (she made herself), it just looked delicious.

Ha! My mother used to make a kind of beef stew that she called (don't laugh) Turd Stew. She made the meat look wierd like a turd I guess (the way she shaped it) and the stew was kind of horrible anyways. I hated it. She put onions, carrots and the regular stuff like potatoes in it but for some reason it didn't taste that great. I thought it was an appropriate name for it whereas your stew probably does taste good though. i understand why you call it the way you do, it's actually good to put alot of leftover stuff like that in and make stew! I'm not a huge stew lover to begin with and just dislike how some gravies are made.

I am always hungry for potatoes. I love them any way they are fixed. Baked, roasted or fried they are delicious. My daughter makes hash out of all manner of meat and then added cooked potatoes and browns them. It is always good.

I often add in things that need used up to dishes that I'm making. I generally start with some specific thing I'm making (i.e., tempeh stew) and just incorporate what I have on hand--anything that will work within the dish (not acting out any scenes from Ruth Reichl's childhood here).

Ha ha - I like the name crap stew! When I think of stew, I think of "thick" stews. So I guess you can say I've made crap "soups" instead! Throw together whatever there is in the kitchen - veggies, meat, and broth - and voila - instant meal. I also like to throw in some kind of pasta, or rice - and sometimes beans.
