Nearly Finished Bathroom

This week the carpenter finally finished work on my bathroom. This means that the new (larger) bathtub is installed and the walls are up and the floor is finished. It has been awesome being able to bathe again, even though the tub does still need refinishing. I will be doing that once I have the money to purchase the refinishing kit and can find a sander to borrow. The funny thing is that the toilet no longer tilts, which should be a good thing but get this...I'm so used to it tilting and feeling scared to use it that I am having a hard time getting used to it not tilting and the floor not caving on me when I step on it! lol Have you ever had a situation like that? Where you got so used to something being askew that once it was righted you felt like it should still be askew??? Isn't it funny how the mind works? I remember a story once about these people who wore glasses that turned everything upside down and so their brain adjusted to seeing everything upside down so that they started seeing things right side up with the glasses on. Then, when they took the glasses off, they saw things upside down. Have you ever experienced anything like this? It's like, you have a door that the handle is broken on and so you get used to just grabbing it and pulling then you get the knob replaced and you have to retrain yourself to turn the knob. As Mr. Spock would say, "Fascinating!"

Hiya ALSK, What fun although it is not funny at all a Toilet that tilts sort of like when you try to use the Toilet when the Boat is inclined all on one side like I had to use and that was not very funny I can tell you good job it did not last longer than 24 hours lol. Have had Toilet Seat tops that just fall back down again for no apparent reason as well just when you least expect it. At the moment I am using an Iron where the plastic thing of where you pour the Water in has fallen off so when you are trying to iron anything the top keeps falling off and the water comes out as well unless you hold that silly top on with your Hand so there you go all sorts of things can happen and I loved it when Spock used to say "Fascinating" and those eyebrows as well. Here´s to your complete Bathroom and everything in it being perfect with no inclinations of any kind.xxx

lol...Thank you for your kind wishes. It has been wonderful to be able to bathe again and the toilet is on a solid floor now so no threat of it falling through when we're on it. YAY!

Hiya ALSK, Great see that you have everything in place I had not thought you could put all that in a trailer. It must be some size of a Trailer then. Well now you are on solid ground so to speak in your Bathroom you can set your mind at ease about all that no worries now. Have fun.xxx

Hiya ALSK, Got up this Morning and the Toilet Seat has started crashing down all on its own so I am starting to think that there is something contagious about all this. Its quite funny really when I think about I was thinking about your leaning Toilet and now I am thinking about the leaning Tower of Pizza or Piza can´t remember how you spell it right now. Hope it is not as cold as what it is here.xxx

Yes, my friend, when I first bought the trailer the floor under one side of the toilet was so soft that that side was sinking into the floor making the toilet tilt a full two inches! It was scary to say the least to use the toilet and I avoided putting any weight on that side of it. Now that the floor is fixed and the toilet level, I still feel like I need to sit to avoid putting weight on that side.

Thank you, louie. Our floors in trailers are composite wood and so when they get wet, they get soft and can sink and become unsafe. I still have a hole in my hallway floor that will eventually need fixing but right now I have a piece of plywood laid across it so that we can walk over it safely. I just don't have the money to fix it right now. The cost of fixing the bathroom is weighing down my budget at present. The new floor in the bathroom is two layers of 3/4" plywood and pretty solid. This was the least expensive way to fix that floor. If I had had them pull up the original flooring and completely replace it, it would have run into the thousands. This just cost hundreds. Still, after putting the new tub in and all the extra work that entailed, my final cost of fixing the bathroom to this point has been around $2400...and I paid $3000 for the trailer! lol...it never rains but it pours!

we do not have trailer homes here in the Philippines but I've seen 20 foot container vans being turned to houses. Good thing you had that fixed, so the floor makes the bowl tilt in a trailer house when it's not fixed properly or if there's something wrong with the floor? God, reminds me of one of those foot traps I've read in a book about the Indo-China war, one mistake of putting one foot or your weight into a pit and that's it, spikes underneath, designed not to kill but to demoralize . I always pray for you friend. honest, when things get tough down there, just remember your friend and he's family is praying for you down here in this part of Asia, best luck and God bless

first of all dear alaskanray I am doing the happy dance as you can take a bath again in your newly finished bathroom and that the loo wont tilt any more..... reminds me of my first rented apartment when it rained through the roof sometimes, me always running into the bedroom when it happened to check whether I would hear that plop, plop, plop again. LOL Have moved 6 years ago as I got married but when it rains hard I tend to inspect the ceiling inspite of the fact we are not under the roof....... LOL......

LOL...I know what you mean. We get conditioned to have things less than perfect and then when we leave that for an improved environment, it's hard to get used to. The funny thing is that when something goes wrong making things less than they were, I have no trouble adjusting to that.
