Hi all,
I am trying to make myLot forum a better place to share and learn. So, I decided to start this thread. It is a thread for us to learn and share knowledge about photography. I am not a professional photographers but I do learn a lot along the way and I learn new things in every shots I made.
Topic: What is BoKeh ?
BoKeh is the term used by photographers to mean "blurry background" in photos. You might have come across some photos where people will say "Nice bokeh!", "Cool bokeh!" etc. Those people actually mean that the photos have good blurry background.
Why Some People Said BoKeh is Blurry Rounded Circles n the Photos?
Blurry rounded circles in photos are known as bokeh as well because it is also blurry background. If you want to achieve blurry rounded circles in your photos, you will have to use DSLR and you have to place some lighting as your background such as Christmas lights on Christmas tree.
By using DSLR, you can adjust your focus to the object you want to capture and you will be able to get blurry background easily.
Can I Get Blurry Background using Pocket Camera?
Yes, it can be done. You can actually do it using PhotoShop. But, try not to overdo it as it might make your photos look unnatural.
For your information, you can actually create star-shaped background bokeh as well as any other shapes. It can be done by attaching a card with the shape to cover your DSLR lens and get the desired bokeh effects. And, you can also do it in PhotoShop if you are not using DSLR.
I hope this short discussion willhelp you understand more about Bokeh. Remember: BoKeh = Blurry Background (blurry circles, blurry stars etc.)
Do you have any comments? Let us make myLot a better place to learn and share. Do share some photos of BoKeh to share with all mylotters.
Note: Unfortunately, my DSLR (Sony A350) is broken and sent to service centre and I do not have any great BoKeh photos to share. I hope some mylotters will share some great one. Thanks.

I am by no means a professional photographer but I have often thought of trying to take pictures other than the ones for memory purposes. I am glad that I will now understand the term Bokeh. Unfortunately the pictures that I have taken with those blurred backgrounds and circles have been accidental. Maybe I should look at them a little differently next time it happens.

I have never heard of this term. Granted I am not a professional photographer I have been in photography for some time now. Are you sure that this is a real term? I know that there is such thing as soft focus but that only refers to the whole picture not being in full focus.
Any way there is always something new to learn. I have not shot anything in a while, my camera has spent a lot of time on a shelf in my closet, life has gotten in the way of my photography :(
