I recently got bored with my current position due to numerous of reasons. 1) boss is unappreciative and not valueing my work. 2) Getting less $$$ for the work I perform. 3) Work is too much that I sometimes end up working from home. 4) I really need a career change. I'm at the point where I need to apply for other jobs with better $$$. I am trying to apply within the same company but is it necessary to tell my boss that I am seeking or should I just wait till I get an offer. Your advises are trully welcome.

That's exactly the direction I'm heading into. Thanks for the advise.

okay so here goes, i will try to repost my response to you as i was trying to post it and it got ended up somewhere i do not know where. =)
(1) your boss my appreciate you or not but he is not saying it.. you never know, but of course you would have some clues about it as well, maybe feel that sometimes he gives you more things to do because the trust is with you than with your colleagues, stuffs like that. bosses are different from each other... others are verbal others are not and some are just as horrible. hehe
(2) okay, you have to check this now with your friends who may be working in the same position like you are in other companies, or maybe they are in the same company but same level... this way you can do a comparison and know where your position at and how much you should be getting. check out other job sites too, they give out comparisons, and this way you might know.
(3) okay now that is a bummer. i would personally tell you to just stop taking home work because eventually its going to get ugly, its going to take its toll on you, especially when you will feel burdened already because of the extra things you do at home that are not helping to calm you and those are work, taking them home only adds stress to you and they more you will feel to go out and find other work. but i tell you... other companies have much more work and even less people to do the work. private companies are not as generous as they were, profits are not as huge as before and they do have a lot of initiative to keep the expenses down = meaning less people to work and you are expected to just multi task. so it is not only your company that does this, believe me.
(4)okay, it is good that you want change, but then you have to consider what you know, what your credentials are, etc. when you go to another industry, take on a whole new job title, then you might not even start at the same level as you are now... before you jump ofver to the other side, take a look at it first, scan the area, get to know the industry and if you can take on the challenges they have for you and if it is what you want, then by all means go for it. otherwise you might end up taking on more than you can handle and might end up only more confused with what you want.
bless you, hope you would be able to decide on this matter.

I am in the same boat. I am and actress and a writer and after three years I want to move on because I guess I get bored easily. I love where I work but I want to work full time as an actress as well as a writer already and I get impatient. Right now I'm searching and applying for jobs because it's hard to find a job so I started early; another reason being that I have to start paying student loans really soon. I am goin to tell my boss three weeks in advance that I am leaving and I think you should do the same. Usually employees tell their bosses two weeks in advance so maybe that's what you should do. And during that time you can search for other jobs. I wouldn't leave the job until you've applied for a few other jobs and are comfortable with whatever you have saved up. Good luck!

No, I don't want to leave my current company till I find something. I'll keep applying till one pops up then I'll give the company two weeks notice. Good luck to you too.

Well I would go to your boss and tell him in a professional way that you are considering other options. If he has a position within the same company that has another leader then you may be happy there. Sometimes there are bosses that do not understand how their workers feel, so you may have to just go to him and talk to him.
Now online work is good, if you go to Odesk you can surely find something, but there is a lot of work for less pay. You will get people that are appreciated. You can always stay here on mylot and be your own boss. I love being my own boss, but I love working for a few people as well. I am working for someone now where I am barley getting time to spend with my son and I am at home, so now I am waiving my options no matter how much money it is. I have to think about my baby and important things that I need to do. Overall I would look at more options and see what you can come up with. Good Luck to you.

Believe I do want to tell him beforehand but what if he thinks now that I'm looking for another job and trying to leave the company why would he keep me anyways. And I can't afford being without a job at the moment since I have a family to support so yah sometimes you have to think about your life. Regarding bosses not knowing their employees's feelings that's theirs to do by having one-on-one meeting apparently this boss failed to do that. I am also thinking about work from home jobs that'll pay my bills so I can raise my babies. Sometimes working from home is harder as well since you can't focus/concentrate on what you're working on. Thanks.

I would wait until it's absolutely necessary to tell your boss. of course if you are looking for another position within the company, you had better give your boss a heads up and make sure you give a lot of notice time (at least 2 weeks is preferred by most bosses). They shouldn't be mad at you for wanting to advance within the company. If you are looking outside of your company - I wouldn't tell your boss until you actually have the other job secured & you are ready to put in your 2 weeks notice!
