Exactly how important do you think vitamins are...do you think they still works after a certain age.. I have tried to take vitamins several times but eventually I forget to take them for days...and then never take them...I wish I could find some vitamins that really works with giving me energy...I am so tired mostly all the time..I am still on the medications for the B R E A S T Cancer...I am thinking that has a lot to do with my tiredness..besides who knows if that chemo ever goes completely out of the system... Do you have any suggestions????

I do take some vitamin. But I don't take it every day. I took a vitamins C thrice a week. since you are under chemo it is bet to consult your Physician on what vitamins should be prescribed. You should ask it first because, You might not gonna know that the vitamins that you're going to take might harm you.

I still think craziestqueenever's advice is the most practical and safe. Talk to your doctor...do NOT rely on what you are told in a discussion forum.

I had the flu and pneumonia shotS also...I use to not bother with those shots but every since the cancer, my doctor advised me to do so and so every since, I have no problems with getting them.... I remember many many many years ago my grandfaher use to give us castor oil every month....UUggghhh....and the only thing I can say about that is that 'IT DID NOT KILL ME".....lol

Vitamins are very good. Why not take them? Unless you have some serious health problems then it's only gonna help you. Vitamins always work, no matter how old you are. You can still eat the same food as someone 20 years younger, so you take in the same vitamins. It would actually be in your best interests to take vitamins if you are old. Your body needs extra supplements when you're older. For example, elders usually need vitamin D supplements because they don't get enough from the sun. So yeah, vitamins are good for any age group, just make sure they are the vitamins you need.

hi PumpkinThePIE, thanks for responding but there does become a time in our lives when we reach a certain age or suffer an illness in our lives that we can not eat the same things we ate 20 years ago. Perhaps when you get that age you will understand that statement. But thanks for your response and suggestions.....

I am taking some now. Mostly I forget too.. or I quite because I can't stand the smell of it. Since I take prednisone I think it's damaging a lot in my body and I have a lack somehow. To be honest I am not sure at all it's working. Start of last year I was tired out, adviced to take them I did for months but as June started I was completely broke. I think the chemo will go out of your body (sooner or later also because all cells in the body will be made new) but I don't know how long it will take. I think you should take some vitamines but better many times a day a lower doses as just once a day. Once a day will not help you since too much vitamines/minerals you will pee out. Also I think that resting a lot will help, which starts with accepting you the way you are at this moment (guess that is the hardest thing to do, at least to me it is since my mind is always busy full of plans but my body is too tired).

Hi WakeUpKitty, thanks so much for your response...I don't want to think that vitamins are going to break me...LOL...its not easy being on a fixed income and having to make decision for our health or roof over our head or having something to eat... I hope the chemo does eventually get out of my system if its not gone yet... I have no problem resting and doing absolutely NOTHING...yes my mind loves to keep me busy as well but my body says "not yet my dear"...so I just follow the body message... Thanks again and have a wonderful week....

The only vitamins that I ever believed in and recommend are those that you get from fruits and vegetables. I have never liked taking pills of any kind and will try to avoid it as much as possible even if it is a vitamin supplement. I have forgotten what TV show it was that showed that vitamin supplements actually do nothing for you. I used to do this for my mom who had liver cancer. I understand that most days you are so weak from the chemo. I would juice carrots for her, then oranges and cook a lot of green leafy veggies for our meals like spinach or broccoli. I recall that at the grocery people gave me weird looks because I would lug like five kilos of carrots and that would be all that I would buy (they must've thought I was breeding rabbits). I can say that this carrot/orange/green leafy veggie thing worked for my mom because she did regain her strength.

Most of the time i donate plasma twice a week. I had a problem with the hermanocrites being low. They said to take vitimans with iron and eat foods high in iron. Ive ran out of the vitimans but im eating more things that are higher in iron. It has really improved just by changing my diet. Seem like the vits made no differences. I dont plan to buy anymore.

I am SO SO SO bad about this too. Maybe you could get yourself one of those 'pill boxes' that have each day of the week on it - and put it somewhere you will see it every morning/afternoon. I need to start taking a multi-vitamin every day. I know they have to be good for you, especially if you don't normally meet your nutritional needs via your diet...Which I'm assuming most people dont'!

I take vitamins every day. I try and eat right, but I don't think anyone gets all of the vitamins they need from food. Maybe they used to, when food was mostly home grown, but not anymore. I have a disability and don't see any more energy though. Everything I do is harder than it is for a "normal" person, so I get tired all of the time. My friend had the same kind of cancer as you twice, and she still doesn't have the energy she had before. It is coming back though, it just takes a long time. She is also older, so some of her slowing down might be from that.

Yes, I am taking ascorbic acid or vitamin c everyday. I see to it that I don't forget because this will protect me from getting sick. As when the chemo will be flushed out of your system, I think drinking plenty of water from 8 to 10 glasses a day will eventually flush it out.

HI bjc! I don't take vitamins. My sister and her children have it everyday but most of the family members don't. I have take them a few times before but do not feel any different so I think I should not waste my money for it. I don't take other supplements as well and feel so grateful that I am healthy. So I have less knowledge about what's the best for you to take. I am afraid that I can't give any help nor suggestion to you. You may seek for the professional advice for it. Anyway, have a nice day to you!!!(^^)

I would say take plenty of B vitamins especially B-12. Best taken in shot form or sublingual (under the tongue) Vitamin C is always good. I am sure the chemo is what is making you tired. Best Wishes...

I keep vitamin boxes on the meal table, so that I am reminded to take them at meal times. Vitamin D is the most important especially in the winters here in the UK because there isn't enough sunlight to help us produce it. There has been much research done on this vitamin and I realized that I wasn't getting near enough. Recent discoveries have found that it helps with a large variety of disease, and it is well worth doing a search on it's beneficial effect. I am sorry to hear of your cancer. I have had many friends go through chemo and they have all had various side-effects and exhaustion was a common one. The side-effects did seem to ease off once the treatment came to an end. One neighbour was back digging in his garden afterwards, so there is a silver lining to every dark cloud. My thoughts are with you.. _Derek

I do not take vitamins as I believe that our bodies should be trained to extract vitamins from the things we eat. If we feed our bodies with vitamins, readily our bodies would be handicapped, and this will not be good. Our bodies would end up handicapped. I think vitamins should only be taken as supplements inn times when they are needed.
