The Twilight series is appallingly written, even though it's popular. They're two very different things and, in fact, sort of prove your first point: anyone can write a story.
Masterpieces that last beyond the author's lifetime - and become classics - are a lot rarer. I doubt VERY much that Twilight will make the grade: there are simply too many people who know it's a passing fad and the writing won't hold up to analysis or the test of time.
An interesting question to ask writers would be whether they'd rather write a masterpiece or sell a million books... that'd be a tough choice.

Unfortunately, that last question would count as a poll (since it's either/or), so is prohibited here on myLot.

I think that if you write things then you are a writer. It doesn't matter whether it gets published, or whether it gets read by anyone else, or even whether it is any good. There is a difference between being a writer and being a good writer who people will appreciate for years to come. If you just want to write for enjoyment then there is nothing wrong with that, but you have to think about why you're writing, and your motivation to continue doing so. As long as you are happy than it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Usually those masterpieces come from the heart. It is something that those authors strongly believe in an internalize. Just like J.K Rowling, her Harry Potter stories were mostly based on her own too. Although there were twists and turns in how she relayed her story, she based it on her own experience.
It's really amazing how writers that made it big have the confidence and the passion in doing what they do. I also believe that patience is a big factor as well.
If we want to, I know we can also come up with great masterpieces! I like writing poems and I hope one day I can also publish it. I really pray that one day this will happen!

So you are correct on that saying for sure. There are alot of writers out there now a days and alot of celebrities coming out and being writers too or maybe they are having people write for them but there the ones with money and that afford to get books published as well.
Now of course i write for myself online and try to make money doing it too and try to make the most of what i can writing online as well. Im not a fan of reading books but i will read some from celbrities that i would like to read. I think i wouldnt be good at writing a book but be better at writing articles. There are different people for different types of writing.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with your opinion of Twilight. I didn't finish any of the books because I was increasingly annoyed by the grammatical errors and the somewhat 'missing plots'. I stopped reading the stuff because I only frustrate myself and I will myself a good favor by reading other books that has taking my fancy.
The definition of being a writer is very hard to define. some writers are good at the technical but lack the creativity. Others are the other way around. In addition, some sell better than others. few writer o authors can achieve a somewhat holistic signalmen of a writer - one ho can write good, with a good following, creativity and master of technique and at the same time, sell the book.
Some people think that they can write but lack the flair of words or the adherence to grammar and basic tenets of writing. Not everybody can create a masterpiece that the world will agree to but anyone whose willing to pour and wire their everything into a book is already a masterpiece.

Everyone can have obstacles in writing. Some can be experts in creativity while some may not. some may have good grammar, but not good with gree flow of words. In a science or medical field writer, they may have good knowledge but grammar may be their weak point. It is hard to find everything in one writer. If every aspect of writing comes together, a writer can be found.

Definitely! Anybody can be a writer, but only few can write well and only few can write with a masterpiece. I know how to write, but I'm quite ashamed with my writing skills. I do believe that it will take a lot of time so that I'll be an excellent writer. By the way, Twilight is not an interesting story for me and I do agree that it has some grammatical errors in it.
