An open relationship is generally defined as a relationship between a couple in which they have relations with other people in addition to each other, WITH one another's knowledge, and sometimes even together at the same time. It is NOT, however, cheating. That's a whole other thing. Open relationships are just that, open and honest about the stuff on the side as a part of the relationship.

I've never heard it before, but from the word "open" maybe I can conclude that it is a relationship between two parties or individuals, in which there is nothing to be hidden about it. The rules or policies are clearly set. If it is between two individuals, there is no lies between them. I hope I am right in this case.

You have a relationship and you and your partner both have relationships with others as well plus you can talk about this together.
