I never really listened to my mother, in fact I never really listened to either of my parents. We didn't see eye to eye for obvious reasons. But one thing that my mother taught me which is getting me through a strabge time in my life, is and this is a direct quote "if people don't like me then they can stuff off"
You can't argue with that, people wither like who you are or they don't really like YOU do they?
I am who I am and if you don't like it.... well you know what to do don't you?
Are you a like it or lump it kind of person? Or do you care what others think about you?
Whats an important lesson (if there is one) that your mother taught you?

'Don't wear shiny shoes...they shine up.' That was one lesson my mother drilled into me, back when I was young and girls were supposed to wear dresses all the time. Must have made an impression, because I almost never wear dreses, although some of my shoes are shiny.
And, I DO like you! For those that don't, it's their loss. Sometimes worrying about what people feel is as pointless as worrying about what people think you said, and not what you did say.

My mom always said to me, "Woman need to have her own financial back up, don't depend on a man to provide it to you." Meaning: be independent financially, work. Well I can't argue with that. Having a job make me financially secure, thus make me more confident in myself.
