I was going through movies on my Roku and my Amazon instant movie account last night and came on an old movie called "Rosewood." It is a movie based on a historical event in Florida. I watched it and found it is a really good movie. I was telling my husband about it, and he told me he had seen it, and because he is from Florida was aware of the event on which the movie is based. What stuck in my mind about it, was the mob mentality it represented and the severe discrimination that went on at that time. At the end of the movie was a statement about reparations made to the survivors of the incident. Amazing, I'd never heard about this movie until I found it last night. I really enjoy historical type movies. Have you seen this movie?

I remember it being a good movie. I'm not sure how historically accurate it is. I know Hollywood likes to sensationalize things at times. I seen what they did to the Black Panther movie.
But Rosewood was a good movie, for sure.

Matersfish, you need to check out your facts in regards to a specific topic before you go on about misrepresentation. Thanks for your response.

I did a search . I believe that what I read was that the movie was mostly accurate but somewhat fictionalized.

I did a search and refreshed my memory. The movie is fictionalized but based on fact. Rosewood did happen but it was kept secret for many years. The story is still not well known.
I believe that some of what happened in Rosewood was mob or group mentality based on racism. There were also heroes in the story. There were whites who helped the black people.
I am reminded about what happened in Salem during witch hunts and trials. I am also reminded of the Nazis and what happened to the Jews and others during that period of time. Talk about mob mentality but there were also heroes.
Mob mentality is terrifying. It can happen anywhere, anytime.

Group Think is not quite mob mentality, not even close but there are some similarities. I have been involved and around groups where persons were really not allowed to think differently than the group. If an individual did so, they often faced some consequences such as rejection or elimination.
I do not care for groups. I do not join anything.

Mob is just another word for crowd. The type of crowd can be the problem. Obviously a crowd can be gathered for a common reason or interest. Like a parade or a political gathering. If anger becomes the motivation, than a problem can exist. It is the adjective that accompanies the word that decides the intent of the mob.

Thanks for the best response.
I have heard of something like flash mobs when something happens and a crowd turns ugly. The crowd was peaceful until something triggered great emotion. And the crowd goes out of control. it can also happen at a fun event. A huge crowd can be watching an event or a band and something happens that makes the crowd go out of control.
Sometimes trouble makers cause the problem.
I live in Austin, Texas and every March, we have a huge music festival. Last year we had some terrifying stampedes when fans could not get inside a venue because it was "sold out". We almost had a huge disaster but for quick thinking on the part of our police. A very popular band was playing a free show on our Auditorium Shores. There was a fence that surrounded the area and limitted in / out access. The show reached capacity. Angry and frustrated fans rushed the fence and the entrance. Fans in front of the fence started getting trampled. The police moved fast and took down the fence so that all fans could get in. And averted a real disaster, if you ask me.

I have heard of this move and I am aware of the situation in Rosewood. I believe that I may have seen parts of the movie. It is about discrimination against African American, right?
You have piqued my curiosity. I am going to do a search.

Yes, it is. When I was young I remember seeing people with mentality close to the mob and some of my own family members were very discriminatory, but not just against African Americans. It was strange about 20 years ago when I found pictures of a KKK meeting in Ohio about the same time the Rosewood event happened. At least, today, you hear and see far less of these types of events. Thanks for your response.
