How do advertisements affect your life?

Do you have such situation: Stand in front of shelfs in the supermarket, you just want to buy a bottle of detergent. Your favorite brands has been sold out. Will you buy a new one because of it's ad. ? Or there is a new restaurant opened, will you go and have a dinner because the pictures of dishes printed on the leaflets looked so inviting?

To me, personally, when I go to the grocery store, usually I go food discount stores, where I find everything I need, spending much less than elsewhere. I own famous brands, does not attract me. Why should I pay more for the same thing?
Now I am agree on the fact that there are also no very good products in discount stores, so maybe for some food is better to go buy them at most stores, but for the rest, better to save.
