Why do we fight going to bed?

Or am I the only one?
I'm really tired. I've been staying up late recently and need to catch up on sleep. I could quite easily fall asleep in my armchair. Instead of going to bed though, I'm staying up. Not because I have anything interesting to do. I'm just watching repeats of The Mentalist and Twitter creep along.
Of course, I was sitting here wondering about exactly why I'm not going to bed when I thought "hey, I can ask MyLot!" Which has given me something to do... but that's beside the point :P
So does anyone else sit up late at night, even when they know they need sleep but do absolutely nothing interesting, fun or important?

When I first read the topic I thought that you are always quarelling with your wife of something.hehe. Well, i could really relate to what you are experiencing because i always sleep very late at night usually past midnight but I already got used to it for quite a long time. I also dont have anything to do especially at night and i also feel bored and i usually just try to watch tv so that i would get sleepy because when i try to go to sleep eary even when im not that sleepy yet, i just end up lying down in bed for hours but still not being able to sleep. So I would just prefer going to bed late doing something rather than go to bed early doing nothing. :)

lol, no, no arguing with the SO here. Well, not often, anyway :P
That's the thing; I want to stay awake to do things, but just end up watching TV. C'est la vie...

I sometimes do. And like you, I sometimes wonder why I do insignificant things before I go to bed even if I feel sleepy already. My wife says that I have lots of things on my mind that I apparently don't realize. Maybe she's right. But I think that doing uninteresting things makes me temporarily forget the stuff that's bothering me so that I won't be carrying them when I go to sleep. It's like having a blank mind before sleeping since those uninteresting things would be the last few things that my mind would remember but they wouldn't stick to my memory that long. They'd be gone even before I reach the R.E.M. stage of sleep :)

That's a good theory. Sort of like letting all those thoughts drain out slowly instead of trying to cram them all out at the same time when you climb into bed.

Such a waste of time, yet it feels so good XD Imagine how much we could do if we didn't need so much sleep though!

Well the important thing, yeah. If I stay up lateer then I should have and go to bed enitrely too late it's usually because I Am doing something fun. Usually it's talking to friends online, or sometimes earning on mylot. Well that's important especially now that I need the extra income.
I don't know why we fight sleep so much. There's been times I've only had two hours sleep before getting up and going to work the next day.

Usually I stay up because I'm doing something. Watching a movie with the OH, reading a book, playing Fable II (which is what has kept me up this last week *cough*). Sometimes I just don't want to go to bed. It's like five year old me rears her head for a while and just declares "no, no sleepy!"

Even after I get very tired, I will stay up another hour or two. I have trouble FALLING asleep when I lay down in bed. It hardly matters how tired I am, I will toss and turn forever before falling asleep. So I try to stay awake until I'm about to fall asleep sitting at my keyboard before I finally lay down and try to sleep. Sometimes it helps me fall asleep faster, but sometimes it doesnt make any difference.

I don't sit up late and do nothing. Before sleeping, I need to clean up, check the locks on doors and windows, switch off unnecessary lights, check the kitchen if someone leave food or anything that will be rotten or eaten by my cats and wash my face. So you see, I really have a lot to do before sleeping. I am tired but I still have to get up to do all that. That's why it's a drag. I need to sleep but I need to do all that whether I like it or not.
