Okay, I just want to clarify the basic purpose of food stamps for people who depend on government's aide. Would food stamps provided to people who is in poverty to get their basic need on food, grocery on supermarket, like food depot, Kroger. Now, there is some saying fast food joints also fight for the grant of food stamps usage there. Would it be legit, allowable? From my point of view, government should grant people to use food stamp in fast food, nor allow fast food restaurant accept food stamps. Some people simply abuse the purpose of food stamps for convenient enjoyment.

I think the food stamps should not be used for such unhealthy fare as the fast food. Also I think the foodstamps should not pay for snacks and soda pop. I knew a couple with a child years ago who blew all their foodstamps on junk food and pop. They would come to my home to get bottles to cash in to buy more pop in the middle of the month! How can someone do that to their child. All the kid knew was junk food, I am unaware that he had even one fully rounded healthy meal a week. Whenever I go to the store, I can immediately spot those who are on foodstamps--the carts are loaded with snacks. There is a discount store by me, Aldi, and they have pretty good deals on a lot of stuff, especially snack food. People have their carts piled high with it, and pop and they are on foodstamps. I know, I'm nosey and just have to check them out if I'm close enough. lolol! Very rarely do I see someone purchasing good food for the family with foodstamps. When I do, I'm a bit shocked but happy they are buying fruits and veggies and good things to feed their families. Those on foodstamps, at least those who have been on them for a very long time, do not purchase good stuff. (there are some on occasion that do look after their health and their family, but from what I witness it is very rare) Yes, it would help the fast food industry tremendously, but it is expensive and would not provide enough nourishment. People who are first-timers on foodstamps do very well to feed their family, but the people who have been on it for a long time seem to purchase more junk.

Well, I can understand why fast rood places want to get to accept food stamps, thats because it is guaranteed money. But I don't think that people with food stamps should be able to go and buy crap with them. I do not consider any fast food to be healthy or worth anything. I would stick with buying real food in a super market. But if you look around, there are many different types of food places that actually accept food stamps.

This would be such a bad idea! My mother has food stamps for the family because she isn't working and needs the help. What I earn from my two part time jobs is not even enough to help her pay all of the rent, so we really need the help; especially since I have student loans coming up. Now I will say that even though food stamps aren't enough we make do with what we get. It's very hard to eat healthy because most of the healthy food is indeed expensive but we try to buy as much fruits and vegetables that we can. Now, a lot of people that have food stamps do use it to buy junk food that can be acquired at the supermarket. If the government allows fast food joints to accept food stamps this would seriously increase the amount of obesity in this country. I would hate for this to happen.

I'm going to disagree with everyone. I think food stamps should be allowed to be used at fast food. What if a person is working, and they need to have lunch somewhere? Lots of people on foodstamps work, and they may need to eat out with their jobs. So they should have that opportunity Maybe it should be limited- like ten dollars or so each month for fast food, or a little more- that way it would not be abused, but would be there if someoen needed it.

I definitely don't think that food stamps should be allowed to be used in the restaurant industry at all. The reason that I feel this way is because the cost of food at restaurants is significantly inflated from the cost of food that you buy at the supermarket that you prepare yourself. Thus, if food stamps could be used at restaurants, there wouldn't be enough money to last through the month and people would still be hungry at some point during the month.

Hi Kingparker, what a rediculous proposal...No I do not think the government should allow people to use food stamps at the fast food places...First, fast food is just so not healthy, reagardless how many times they post those calories on wall... I don't think that was the purpose of the food stamp bill...Now I am don't think people on food stamps are any less than anyone else but they should try to do the best for their household and I just don't think using food stamps at fast food establishments will be doing the best for their families....
