Just when I wanted to sing, I have no voice...

If you had seen my previous posts about me coming down with a flu, and getting cough and colds afterwards, well this is the latest development--my voice all but left me. I feel like a boy going through puberty (I'm actually a girl) 'cause my voice is constantly breaking when I speak. And just when I want to sing so badly, not a sound would come out...
So friends, if you think you want to do something right at this minute, or that you know you CAN do something right at this moment, and what's more, you happen to have all the power and strength to do it, well... DO IT NOW! You'll never know when your strength to do such things will fade, then you'll end up regretting the time when you "could have" done something...
But anyway, I know full well that my voice will come back in a few days. (with medicine, lots of water, and vitamin C) It's just that when you're in the moment of wanting to do something so badly, you know, it's a bit frustrating if you can't. Makes me want to turn back time and tell myself, "Don't eat that chocolate, you stupid girl!" so that even under the merciless air conditioning at the wretched office, the flu wouldn't have the chance to hover and say, "Gotcha!" (I get sour throat easily when I eat too much sweets. :()
Sigh, the things we wish we never did... and the things we wish we could have done... So friends, live everyday so that you won't have regrets!

Hi! That also happened to me. You should rest your voice so that you will be able to regain it. Drink a prescribed cough medicine and lots of water too. Eat foods rich in vitamin C so that your immune system will be strengthened. Avoid too much exposure to cold places and eating too cold or sweet foods.Get well soon.

hi anncherry my best friend Nelda works in a too air conditioned office too and she told me she brought an extra heavy coat to work just because it was so cold in their office. and we live in southern
California and it was not hot out at forty Fahrenheit just eight degrees above freezing so why did they have to have the air
conditioning up so high there? She works in a health insurance office so that makes it even sillier in my estimation.,.

Whoa, that is indeed confusing. ~.~ But as for me, I work at a telecommunications company where we often troubleshoot servers that need to be kept in a cold place 24/7 (because they heat up easily). That's why even at our cubicle, the air conditioning is a little too cold for us. ^^

Thank you! :) Like right now, I'm eating ginger soup (or something). We call it "lugaw" here. Lots of ginger for the throat. :D
But unfortunately, it's not possible for me to stay away from cold places 'cause here at the office, the air conditioning is set to high... :/

you may want to think of taking some sort of vitamin also. perhaps your immune system is down.
as for me, it seems like i have a compression fracture in my vertabrae so i am stuck at home not able to do much right now and because i am the mom and i have a job outside of the house, there is not much i can do. fortunately, i have two teenaged daughters and a helpful hubby.

Awww... That's sad to hear... You are in a more uncomfortable situation than I am but you're still so strong. So you're here on MyLot more often? :) Don't worry much about other things, just concentrate on getting better and it will be over in no time and you'll be able to go to work and do the household chores like before. :)
Guess my immune system is really down. I'm taking my cold meds regularly and eating ginger broth almost everyday. Also pure pineapple juice. ^_^
Hope you get better really soon! Take care! :)

I think a lot of us put off things and then regret having done so when we realize we can't do it anymore. All those missed opportunities that just passed us by thinking we can always do it some other day. I agree with you that any moment, we can lose everything so it's really best to do things we can do now and not procrastinate. Hope your voice is back. I could imagine how frustrating for you not being able to sing :))

Sadly, it's still not back yet. :'( You're right. I've been procrastinating so much... Maybe that's why God made it this way so that I'd learn my lesson. Sigh... -_-

Well, thank you for sharing some lessons in life. I know most of us knows that, but most of the time we procrastinate.
I hope your voice will return soon, now you know how to avoid this loss of voice problem from coming back. According to the saying, too much of everything is bad, so next time, don't eat too much sweets because its not only your voice that will be affected you can also have other illness such as diabetes. For now, you can make use of the sign language. Get well soon.

Ehehe, sign language is a good idea, rather than mouthing out the words. ;P My colleagues just avoid speaking to me so that I can rest my throat. I'm glad they understand. :)
Actually, my "sweet threshold" is pretty low. Like I can't even eat a bar of chocolate in one seating. And if I eat half of it, I still can't expect to be completely cold-free the day after. So yeah, I'm usually careful on how much sweets I eat. But last week, my parents bought my favorite chocolate (Meiji with macadamia) and I just can't help it. I ate 3 (little) pieces. The next day, I'm already shivering at the office 'cause of a fever (maybe because I've also been evading the flu for, I think, 3 times now, by taking medicine early). So that's what happened. ^^

I still did, actually. But it was frustrating 'cause nothing would come out on high notes. T_T But my throat's okay now. Last weekend, I was so happy to be able to try out my new mic, at last. :D It was a lot of work configuring all the small details and getting used to it, but it's okay. I'm so excited to record this Friday! It's been a while since I posted a new cover. ^^

Thanks for the advice! But , somehow, it seems that you have given up on trying to sing? Or have you given up? Telling us this but giving up yourself would be somewhat contradicting. So, don't give up and prove it to us too by what you mean. You have one chance in life. If you give up now, and not trying your best to sing till your last breath, you might really end up regretting. Maybe, just maybe, even how hard you tried, but your voice never get better, but at least, at the end, you can tell yourself , I had tried my best, I have no regrets what so ever. So yea. That would be my point of view. Sorry if I have offended you though. :D thanks for your advice again.

No sweat, it's ok. :) Actually right now I'm already making a list of the songs I wanna sing when I regain my voice. I'm definitely not giving up. But today (with no voice) is really a no-no. Can't even carry a tune with my voice like this. I need to rest my vocal folds so that they'll heal naturally. And eat the appropriate foods to speed the healing up. :)

hi annchery here in Southern Calif the flu an virus bugs are really '
going full tilt. I spent most of Dec and all of January being ill from a cold to Bronchitis to pneumonia . Now I am well again and
it feels so good too. I missed a lot of time mylotting so am glad to feel like mylotting again. Hope you get well soon.Losing your voice when you wanted to be able to sing had to be really frustrating and feeling awful too did not help either. I doubt if chocolate gave you that sore throat more likely a nasty little virus is to blame or if its really really painful you have been invaded by the streptococcus
bacteria so don't blame the poor chocolate for that at all. lol
Strept throats are the worst and need antibiotics to really recover
from them. hope you are feeling a lot better by now.
