Where do you hide your money?

I guess people might think, the bank should be the perfect place. But I want another option where I can hide my money inside my home. It has to be a place where other family members could not find it. I don't have a safe in the house, besides, i don't have that much money to keep in there. So, do you have any suggestions for a good place where I can place my mind, a safe place where nobody could know about but me? Thanks!

You could make a false bottom in one of your draws. It's quite easy; find a cork and cut it into quarters vertically. Take each of these quarters and stick them into the corners of the draw (you may want to cut them a little shorter depending on how deep your draw is) then find a piece of material that matches - or looks similar to - your draw bottom and cut it to size (this is the trickiest bit) glue a small bit of material to the bottom of the false base at the edge so that one bit of it is sticking up (this makes a tab by which you can pull the false bottom up to reveal whatever you hide beneathe it.) then pop it into your draw. voila! Birdie -

hahaha that sounds like a secret agent would do. so cool. I did think about it when I was wondering how to save my money so I can forget it. but then I was too lazy and I thought it was too complicated. so I ended up places it under my folded clothes instead. hahaha

Hmm, you gave me an idea. Well, i think saving money from the bank is ok. But if i'm going to hide it in our house i think the safest place to be is in pictures frames. LOL. I think no one will bother to look in a picture frame. What do you think? LOL. Last time i tried putting my money in the bible. Which also works cause nobody's reading the bible. I mean we're reading the bible but sometimes it's just sit there. LOL.

Hi Aja! Why not "hide" or invest your money in a Cooperative? Not only you can safekeep your money there but you can also make loans with your money as your capital or collateral. Your money will grow like it was in a bank. Or maybe you can entrust it to one of your trusted friends? I hide my money in the bank and also some amount somewhere in my closet. I also have a bamboo coin bank which I just store inside my room. I also money in our office Cooperative. Aside from me, only my mother has a key to my room and she's not the kind who would lend the key to anyone even if they were my siblings. She knows how important privacy is to me.

Maybe there's an employees' cooperative at your work? Or at your neighborhood?

I'm researching about that. It has interested for quite awhile, that kind of investment. Can you suggest any cooperative where I can start investing? Thanks

Instead of hiding your money, why not just use it to start a small money-making business? Doing that, you've already hidden your money and at the same time, you gave yourself the opportunity to double what you have. You can also hide your money in books, like what I and the others here do. Inside your shoe seems also to be a good place to store your money :)

hmm, good. I've been thinking about investments for awhile. a money is only good as it is wisely spent, not kept. um, shoes. it's good when you are traveling and you can use that money for emergencies. expect smelly money though

There are already many companies dealing and accepting small investments like Php 5000 as minimum and I think that the interest is higher compared to those given by banks. I have an investment firm referred to me by one of my colleagues and it seems to be reliable and consistent. They've already made money out of their initial investments. Money in any form or smell as long as it is genuine and valid for transactions will be accepted by anyone, LOL.

Me, I usually hide my money in books, I put money in every page of the book and put it back in bookshelf, sometimes I put it in the old movie DVD case and hide into my drawer.. looks like childish but its effective for me nobody notice that there is a money inside of those things...

hiding money in books is good. But I have a sister who also reads, and she might take money Many people borrow my school books, so nah-uh. However... dvd cases? my family uses them a lot so I can't do that. Maybe i should pick a very boring book, one that no one else would read to hide my money in. hehe

I also do the same thing :) I love placing money in books especially those that are crisp and almost fresh from the printing press bills. No one in the family touches my books because I think I am the only one fond of reading. Many times did I find myself surprised learning that I have money hidden in books. What a joy it is! :) The bills also serve as my bookmarks for the page I last read. Saving and bookmarking at the same time.

yes choose an old book they already read, DVD case the one they already watched and hide it in a safe place that nobody can see like in your room in your drawer.

lol i don't really know. i guess i would "hide" my money in the zip compartment of my handbag. because for one it's nearly always with me, and two, even if someone were to look in my bag, they'd obviously check my purse.. and it wouldn't be there lol! :)

haha that's awesome! I have many purses and wallets. Big purses and wallets, i don't use. They are easily seen and anyone can take them and expect money to be in them. Too obvious for people who are planning to steal. Hidden compartments in bags are good... except when a snatcher would take your entire bag and your money which is in there. I take my smallest and most humble looking wallet. It seems like a coin purse and not easily seen because it blends with the color of the inside of my bag. sometimes i find it hard to find my wallet myself! they couldn't believe that i placed thousands there.

The best place would be to keep it in a wallet and to always carry it with you. You can also keep the money in the old greeting cards which belong to you so nobody else would open them. You can take any box from your home to put some unused stuff in it and then you can keep the money at the bottom of the box and some other stuff over it. I am sure nobody would even bother to look into that unused stuff.

hehe, well i consider our personal wallet a good place to keep them from other people. but the money inside is not same from us, the owners, who will be tempted time to time to use them.

I kind of knowing how you feeling about that aja ^_^. Its because i have a little brother that like to take my only small amount money. I usually hide my money inside the stacks of my DVD or other CD stacks. Other best place to hide some money is inside some stacks of books. Usually my brother can't find my money when i hide all of the money there except if i forgot to hide it. But be carefull though, because sometimes even i hardly find my money because i forget which CD/DVD or books where i put the money on ^_^ Hope you find the best place for you to hide your money...

thank you! I know, right? my little sister always asks for money. but i ignore her. hehe, it's better if you can remember where you put them. it's like a treasure hunt already. books, i think, are better options than dvd cases. dvd cases and cd cases can be borrowed by someone. you might lend them to someone and forgot that it was where you put your money.

Just like the first respondent, I also find the question funny At first, you sounded as if you are a robber or something.. Yeah, the bank is the safest place where we can store our money. Keeping a big sum of money inside your home is not a wise decision. You can never tell what could happen. Just to point out, it is wise to keep your money in different banks. That way, if one bank will go bankcrupt, you can still have something to fall back on

No problem! It is actually funny, the way you sounded, not scary at all I also want to think about keeping money but I think first, I should think about me earning money and having something to keep as savings

I didn't realize that until you pointed that out. It's as if I'm a thief trying to find out where I can find money. Anyway, i like keeping money so i try to find options where I can hide them, some from other people's hands. Thank you for your response.

I can understand your situation...but i don't find any place safe in house. But i feel opening a bank account privately for yourself is the best solution!Informing your family members about this account is upto you.No one will ever know about it.Use an atm card for your personal withdrawals and online banking for other purposes.Hiding somewhere in the house(even in the most safest place)might worry you. Whenever you are out of home, you will be under pressure. So decide for yourself.

I had this in mind too. Before, I asked my parents to help me open an account. They always postpone it. Now, a year after that, I finally got impatient. So, with the money I earn from my job and with the help of my boyfriend, I started an account without my parents knowledge. I feel real proud of myself when i saw their surprised faces after seeing my new atm card.

Hahahahaha...... I can relate to this! For me I use to hide my money inside the speaker in my room. I had this small speaker in my room having a h=1.5ft and w=7inch, I use it to hide my money and some valuable stuff. I use to open the back part of the speaker with screw driver and put my money inside. Lol...sounds funny but who would think that I'm using my speaker as a vault.

You could try hding your bills in a thick, boring book. It has to be a very uninteresting book so you do not have to worry about them reading it. Another way is to hide your money in your shoes. It has to be a pair of shoes that no one wears but you. I do this before. I hid ny money in my military boots (it was part of our curriculum to join basic military training or rotc). Place your money inside your shoes then place the shoes in a box. :-) But still, I would advice you to just put it in a bank because it has a negative impact in our economy if all of us would hold onto our money. It has to go back to circulation, if not, it can cause a shortage in our money supply. Thus, the central bank would have to create new set of coins and bills which of course, adds to the expenses of the government.

i understand. Of course, I don't plan to forget about banks completely. They are good for big amounts of deposits. but when we are at home, sometimes we have money shortage, so it's good to have a place where we can find some money for a certain use at home. it shouldn't exceed more than what is necessary for home necessities.

A good place to hide your money so it won't burn if the house does is in the refrigerator, I think. At least that's what I've been told. I don't hide any money. I don't trust that someone might come in and find it if I did. I don't have enough to spare to give someone an opportunity to do that. And knowing me, if I did decide to hide it, I would think of the first place a thief would think of even though I though it was an awesome hiding place.

Let me laugh first. Interesting question. Are there any thief in you home so that you are bound to hide your money? Do you not trust your family members? Well, i cant say where you can hide unless seeing your home. lol. I keep my wallet always under the cushion of my bed and if my parents take money, they inform me later on and it does not affect on my wallet. hehehe... Have a nice time.

I love my family but I don't want them to be tempted to take the money so I'm planning to hide it somewhere where they can't find it. You know it! My bed is not that safe a place, because my sister and I share the same room. The bed is not suitable to place my wallet under it either. Because anyone would notice the uneven cushion and would find it immediately. Eeeep!

Well, although I have a savings account, and a debitcard, where I can manage my paltry "capital," do not hide the fact that I often have the cash that I keep at home. I, just to keep as a "secret" that I possess, I usually put the banknotes in an envelope, and hide the envelope, in the middle of my clothes in the wardrobe. None of my family knows where I keep the money, maybe one hand, it may appear to be wrong? Well, at least let my little secret!

I find this discussion so funny! I used to hid my money in a secret place inside my house. It's only me who knew where I put the money. I hid it inside my closet, a very secret place inside my closet. I hid it there so that no one can get it, but then the security of our house was threatened when intruders came into our house last December. Although, they were not able to steal my money. I feel that it's not really secure. I made up my mind to invest them in the bank.

hmm... well, of course we need banks for this purpose. We can't rely solely on the hidden places in our homes to put our money in. It's better if we use the bank for large deposits and for some spare changes, we can place them in books or some other place in the house.

I think you better keep your room lock just to make sure that nobody enters your bedroom and get your things or your money without your knowledge. I usually keep mine on my cupboard, though I know that it is just easy to be seen if anyone really wanted to search money. I guess it is always better to put your money in your account, you can withdraw it anytime you need money.

hmmm... i share a room with my sister, so i can't lock it. She has to use it too. my closet is not exactly a good place because anyone can just open it and find it there. It would be hard if there were a lot of clothes. I guess hiding it there would be better than not hiding the wallet at all. -sigh- thank you!
