Mosquitoes attacking!

I know that insect/mosquito repellent lotions can help keep them away, but who is an expert or knowledgeable about what type of plants do mosquitoes stay away from? Our house is a little open and not all areas have screens that can keep them away. I wish that there was a way to keep them away, I've heard that there are certain plants that they stay away from. What are these plants? I know that keeping your area clean will also help keep the mosquitoes away. I'll try to do that as well.

Mosquitoes are pests that can spread disease and itchy discomfort. You can check this site. http://gomestic.com/gardening/five-plants-that-repel-mosquitoes/.

You've already got some good advice here but I think you wanted more info on the type of plants that will help deter them. I have been told that using some plants will help but never tried them. Last year I tried to make some oils out of some herbs, etc. but I don't think they were strong enough. Anyways try growing some lemonbalm, citronella grass, mosquito plant, and even catnip ( unless you don't want a bunch of cats in your area, then that wouldn't be a good idea!). I hope it helps. I prefer as many natural remedies for things like that as possible, I know what a nuisance these insects are. I have been bomboarded with them here myself, due to the faact there's a few buckets of water always out in the summer which someone in my family uses for God knows what reason but insists on not dumping it. I have been kept in the house most summers due to the skeeter problems before but last year I got fed up and bought some commercial brand repellant and didn't have to deal with it anymore.

In Chennai mosquitoes are very common -- especially because of stagnant water, waste etc. It is advisable to have mosquito net. Also use mosquito repellent sprays and I just sprayed in our bed room.
