I started travelling on my own when I was 16, and I have always felt in a way more experienced of my peers back then. And when I meet someone who has been travelling a lot in his/her life they often know quite a lot about life and the world.
So is it true, does travelling make you a wiser person?

I get more wise on each of my travels in the world. My trip around the world happened when I was 20 to 21 years old. I gained independence, became more wise and learned about poverty, learned about wildlife and gained knowledge of different nationalities. I have been traveling to different countries since I was fourteen years old. I have been to Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America and Australasia.

So yes then you confirm me that by traveling people do gain a lot of experience and wisdom. How did you manage to go all around the worlds at such young age? any tips?

I think every thing we do in life makes us wiser, so I guess travelling does as well, but I guess in some ways when travelling one has to get away from the tourist spots and really live the life of the people you are visiting.

Yes of course I agree with you. You won't learn much about the way of living just by listening to tour guides. All I have learnt is by talking, spending time and asking questions to locals.

Though I believe in the value of a good education, I believe more wisdom is gleaned from experience. I can read a book about spousal abuse and still enter into an abusive relationship. But once in that relationship I would be more inclined not to let it happen again from EXPERIENCE. Maybe that was a bad example because some people are in abusive relationships because they have low self-esteem or think they deserve to be treated that way and once out of an abusive relationship they are bound to continue the same pattern.
In travelling one is exposed to many different cultures, lifestyles, poverty levels, basically everything. One can learn a lot from travelling, more than you can by reading a book on any given country or culture.
On the other hand, if you are a young person who just travels to party then you sure aren't going to learn much. Just look at the spring break stories.
I still say experience brings wisdom and that can come from travelling as well as other things.

generally for me traveling is make a person wiser because, it takes chances to see and discovering new things around. traveling also makes a person independent and boosting self confidence. Every time i travel i enjoy myself at the same time i learn things in life around :)

I think that I have learned a lot from travelling and that travelling has made me a wiser person. Of course you can also learn many things from books, but I think that you learn things in a different way when you experience them on your own.
Travelling has made me more independent and it has taught me to solve problems on my own. It can be challenging to visit a country where you don't speak the local language. I have experienced that many times, and I have had to find different ways to communicate like dictionaries and sign language.
Travelling has also taught me many things about the living conditions in other countries. When I visit another country a lot of things are different from my own country, and it is interesting to experience a different culture. When I travel I love to meet the locals and learn more about the way that they live.

I think the notion of wiser has to do with experience and knowledge, but I would not associate it with traveling. Someone can travel as many times as he or she wants, but a person may not care about a surrounding.
I have not traveled to many places. When I travel, I would like to go to places that interest me. If I go to those places, I would like to spend time. I would hope to master some languages, know some people and get to know them. Hopefully I can make some friends. Somehow you can gain experience and knowledge by taking time with every aspect of a country or culture.
Some people travel for business, which they would have to be familiar with a country and culture if they want to have a good business working relationship. One can gain knowledge and experience from business dealings like this. This way of traveling is limited.
A good traveling experience is one where you can spend time and get to know people. This is how a person can be wiser.

This discussion reminds me of the saying, "The world is like a book. Those who does not travel reads only a page..." I guess it is true. Your experience when you travel is nothing when you just learn about it with your history teacher or your books. It does not only provides you with the facts and figures you find in a history book, it also sharpens your interpersonal skills, communication skills, sense of direction (when exploring) and of course your budgeting skills. hahaha... And those are described by some experts as other parts of your intelligence which makes me conclude that yes, traveling really makes you a wiser person.

Interesting, well it still depends because may travel over the world and still don't learn anything valuable. It depends on how a person appreciates that certain travel so even though that person just has been in a few places, if he/she really did enjoyed and treasured the moment, so he/she has learned something new and probably meaningful. Lastly, we should be thankful whenever we are given the opportunity to travel to different places because it's just not a another new and exciting experience because it can surely help us widen our knowledge.

Not necessarily. You can certainly learn a lot from traveling, but a truly wise person will find a lesson in every situation. To be able to see how different, and yet the same, people are, is a very great gift.

I think traveling does make a person wiser if they pay attention to things. A lot of people go places just to see it but don't really take in the info offered to them. I have done that myself until I wisened up. Then there are people that absorb everything they see and hear. That is what I am tryong to do now.

Yes, Traveling won't just make you a better person but it makes you know yourself better. A friend of mine who loves to travel knows herself too much and she is so strong. Traveling will makes you open your heart to a lot of place.

I may say it is quite true, wait, it's absolutely true. Travelling teaches you lots of things, more that you wver would learn in books or by media. Travelling is such a massive lot of experiences that will mark you for the rest of your life, so definitively, travelling makes you wiser.
