i really feel that there is a preconception in the mind of people that the more rich you are or the more money you are earning the more success you are in life compared to others.
this a believe that exist with the people that if you are not making money or are not enough rich then you are actually not working hard or not at all successful in life.
i want to know that how come money is the measuring units of success in one's life?
a person with a simple income and lifestyle can be successful. a poor labor working on daily wages can also be successful,so why is it that "money" is considered the basic of being successful in life ??
can you friends share your opinions regarding this??

hi sayo,
Basically, many of us think that success depends on the money we are making in our life. I also overheard some people who see others as successful once they travel abroad and making big amount of money capable of having a good house and buying their own car. I think, once a person is living under poverty, that person thinks that being rich someday is already a success. However, when it comes with rich people, some of them have different thinking. Success means having a complete family and being with trusted friends. Actually that word has a very broad meaning. It differs from person to person. I am already earning a good income but still I cannot consider myself successful. The reason is that, I do not achieve my dreams yet. I am still working on it. But some of our neighbors think that I am already successful because I have a stable job and have good income.

hello annierose ,
yes you have got me right dear.
this is what I wanted to know and understand that "success" have various interpretation for different people provide they belong to different levels of economic strata.
people have their own ways of defining success and measuring it.
basically the lower strata people who are basically the struggler of basic necessities view "success" as being rich and having money.
but the other strata of the economic levels have different opinions with the rich and highest in the strata have their own factors of measuring success.
so altogether success for some strata of people is only concerning of becoming rich and making enough money in life.

Success is not measured by how much money you have in the bank nor how many countries you've traveled to. Success is measured by what others have become because of you.

I completely disagree with it. Success cannot and shouldn't be measured by the money one earns. It is just that people think that way as you said. Money can buy us many things and make us rich. But it cannot buy us happiness and success. If a school going child gets a good rank or good marks in the class test or exam, for him it means that he just succeeded in a task and is thus successful. And for a mother to be successful, it can be anything like if she cooks good food and makes her children happy. Money can mean success to a rich businessman but not to everyone. According to me, many people consider that if they have money then they are successful just because they can buy whatever they want to and fulfil their desires. But they do not understand and realise that money will bring them success and happiness only for a jiffy but not for a lifetime. They realise it only when they lose something which was more precious than anything else.

Yes, in life we need money. However, we can not measure everything with money. We can buy supporting tools for our life, but we can not have wisdom and happy life with money alone. There is more thing in this life, such as time spend with family. Therefore, there is many training and seminars on passive income.
But for me there is no real passive income that really works without us control it.
More money mean more responsibility and more time to manage it.
We should not sell our happiness with money.
To me success is measured by two thing, money and personal life. One of it fail, it means no success, because life is unbalance.

hello lilaclady,
yes i you ask my opinion on this ,i do agree on this.
though money can make you eligible to meet your materialistic needs and desires to the fullest but at the same time your mental peace is a factor to be considered.
i believe that people who are rich and have money lack in very important aspect that is they can not buy happiness and peace with their money.

I think being successful means you're happy. You don't need a lot of money you just need to feel good about life and stuff. I wouldn't care what life I had as long as I was happy about it. However some people are more materialistic and want lots of expensive stuff to feel good about themselves. You can't say that they're wrong though, because everyone has different views on what is a "good" life.

I don't agree. I think success should be measured by the person not by society and should be measured by the number of life goals they have reached and to what extent those goals have been reached. Basing it all on money means that a woman who is a teacher, mother and wife earning $30,000 per year is less successful than an unmarried software programmer who earns $60,000. Or that a tattoo artist who is doing what he loves every day of his life but only making $20,000 a year is less successful than the Governor's press secretary who makes $50,000 a year but wants nothing more than to open his own bakery.
Success should be something we measure for ourselves because only we can know how we truly feel about the accomplishments we have made in life and it should be weighed based on what those accomplishments are rather than how much money we are making off of them.

For some it is, but in general I disagree. I think that really success is measured by how well you follow up on the goals that you make and if you exceed your previous expectations on them. Granted for some that is making a lot of money, but that is obviously not the only goal that a person could in fact make. Success is really just achievement.
And achievement comes in many forms. An absolute multitude of forms, there are just many times where a person who lives a comfortable lifestyle is successful, with good health. Successes come in so many forms, it is difficult to rather pigeonhole everything. And perhaps success is finally finishing a project as well. There are just so many factors with success that it can be astounding.

It's a basic measurement for success of one person. That is the very first impression on a so call successful person on average. Of course not all people agree with it as success in a person's life cannot be measure or judge by other. There are too much elements hidden to be measured. As long as we live happily and satisfy with our life, then we consider as a successful person.

I can see to some extent the thought behind this, if your successful in life you'll also be successful in your career and therefore make lots of money. Its hard to be successful from at anything if you live on a park bench.
Meanwhile its rare that any of the wealthiest people contribute much anything to society. Einstine was successful but not rich, most nobel prize winners aren't rich, and Mother Teresa was definitely not rich.
I think the ability to take care if basic needs is part of being successful, but the amount made really isn't. Most of the wealthiest people in the world are nobodies. They never did anything of any significants beyond making money, and quite frankly if that's the only thing you're good at, that could hardly be considered successful.

hii there,
well you have really put some insight to this topic altogether.
I really appreciate the way you have put in forth your opinions and this I think should be the way and the thought of the people.
I personally have dealt with this kind of situation and i have noticed a tremendous kind of variance in the interception of "being success" to people.
I do wonder why such and that is the reason I have started this discussion.

I don't really agree with that..Being rich is absolutely good thing..For success, I think success is when you know your goal, grow up to reach your maximum capacity, sowing seeds that could give benefits to others etc..

hello MeLodicity,
welcome to mylot.com.
well the success you are talking about actually dwell with your inner satisfaction and claims but the success I am talking is in terms of the general tendency or the rather the approach that people indulge into.
If your are speaking of the inner pursuit of happiness one think of all the factors that you have mentioned but that what looks good on paper or in articles but in real life you experience a different psychology altogether.

No not necessary if more money means more successful person because now people are doing 2 no. work and earning money. Successful means they takes the reputation in the society and feel good by heart means if we are working innocently and getting success then this is successful person. Some person who has more money but they are in jail how can say they are success. Everyone is success in their life if they trust on God, hardwork and themselves.
