Life: Quality vs. Longevity

I think too many people are old and miserable. Everyone is so concerned with living longer that they forget to live in the process. I'll trade a few years for being happy. I'm not saying that I go out and party every night, getting drunk and high and sleeping with tons of random women. I try to be healthy and eat right and exercise. But I still do "unhealthy" things from time to time because they make me happy. It's like these mom's who are so scared of their kids getting sick that they don't even let them lick spoon when they're making cookies. Dang-it people, let them enjoy being kids for a few moments! I STILL lick the spoon, even today. But those are my thoughts, what are yours?

I don't really know old and miserable people. I assume they are there but then they are mostly over 80 years old. And if they are miserable it's because they are sick or in an elderly home not allowed to decide about their own life anymore (or should I say: what they like to eat or drink?). It's a fact there are more and more old people. Personally I dont have the wish to get old, I don't really care. I only want to feel satisfied about my life and feel happy now and then. BTM my mother never told me not to lick a spoon, my granny did. But this was because of a complete different reason. The chance there might be worms in the flower. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Wrong are dads who don't allow their daughters to live.

I agree. I believe the role of the parent is NOT to control and mold your children (sons or daughters) into who YOU want them to be, but to guide and mold them into who THEY want to be. But that is a different discussion. My point is, should you be worried about getting sick or dieing early? Sure, but not to the point where you don't enjoy the little things that make you happy.

Many older people are miserable not because they have never "lived", but because their lives were poor quality-wise. The majority of the people work badly-paid jobs that they hate their whole life, end up having kids with the wrong person, working 9 to 5 5 days a week only to go back home, eat unhealthy stuff, watch TV and finally sleep. It's a neverending cycle which only worsens as time passes. The majority of the people I see, me being into fitness and in amazing physical condition, don't give a damn about what is healthy or not, rarely exercise, are often smokers/week end drinkers, etc. . What do you consider "unhealthy"? Getting drunk or eating Ice cream once in a while does not damage your long term body composition if you are living an healthy lifestyle, which is what most people aren't doing. They are sick and miserable because that is the result of all these years of bad habits coupled with other factors.

as they say mother's knows best. but also that's not also true, i remember when i was a kid my mom always says to me "this is what you gonna do" "this is not what you gonna do". it makes me sick. but i get used to it even now. Even now she still say what i am going to do, but! i am older now i can decide for myself but still i love my mom even sometimes, we don't have same points of view now. But i respect her because she care for me, she's just being over possessive. and the point live what you like because this will mold your true self :)
