Two Women fighting over Iggy Arroyo's Body

I cringed when I read that headline of Inquirer today. Iggy Pidal was married first to a certain Jacinto, reportedly the sister of the singer Ramon Jacinto. After the first marriage was annulled, he married Aleli next but they separated and annulment was commenced sometime in 2006. In the meantime, he took up with Grace Ibuna, who has a love child with Gabby Concepcion. His annulment was granted by the lower court but someone appealed (I don't know who), and so it was not legally final when he died suddenly in London. The legal question now is who has the right to bury Iggy Arroyo? Aleli contends that the annulment is not final so she is still the wife. Grace Ibuna claims that Iggy Arroyo has strict orders not to turn over his body to Aleli (I wonder why). If you were the judge, to whom would you give the body? Why? No solomonic decisions please.

Burn the body....weight the asshes...and distribute it equally among the two. I think the women would care that much as long as the same thing is done with iggy's wealth, especially the jose pidal account.

Are you sure they are fighting over the body or the benefits that come with it(just my personal opinion)

the legal wife has all the right. and since the annulment is not yet final, he is still married to jacinto. if grace ibuna has papers to show that iggy had instructions (verbal instructions not accepted), then she can follow that will. ann

If I were the judge, I would make a public announcement to all interested parties to submit marriage contract; have them evaluated and make known who the legal wife of late Cong. Iggy is. If it is proven through the contract that Aleli is valid, then the right to bury the deceased belongs to her. I hope this answers your query. But here's my view on this issue. Personages involved here aren't people from the streets and slums. They're well-off and have good family background. Instead of bickering among themselves, using lawyers and media mileage. plus washing their dirty linen in public, they should sit down, talk and share whatever wealth Iggy has left behind in the name of justice, fairness or God without fanfare.

Hi Advocate.. Hmm.. This is hard... With insurance policies though, the proceeds would be given to the legal wife. If, however annulment has taken place, the proceeds would not be awarded to the wife. As for Grace Ibuna, hmmm.. she is not married, hence she has no lawful rights for the proceeds. Effectively, iggy is a bachelor.. and his proceeds would go to his parents.

I think it should be the legal wife as far as annulment is not yet final. I been hearing and seeing this issue in news in television more often and it is quite annoying now.Why don't just settle this issue personally.I guess media should not expose it and pay attention on this as much as possible. They should leave it to the family for them to have a solemn and quiet wake and mourn for him.

Being that the annulment of Arroyo's marriage to Aleli isn't yet final and executory, Aleli has the legal custody of Arroyo's body and also any assets he has unless specifically stated in a will. Ibuna's claims if they're not substantiated by documents are just hearsay. But if she had indeed a copy backing her claim that Arroyo had instructed her not to turn over his body to Aleli, I don't think that would still count since under our laws, the legal wife has every right even to the assets of Arroyo (unless they entered into a pre-nuptial agreement before they got married). By the way, is Ibuna married to Arroyo?

This kind of matter is so hard to be decided. If I were the judge, it would be better that the family, the brother of Iggy should be the one to take care of this matter, to prevent the rift on both sides. He should be the one who have the right to bury Iggy.
