Chewed up again!

My sister and I are consistent victims of having our favorite sandals being chewed up by our dogs. We learned that during their puppy hood we were warned by our vet that there will be a lot of chewing from them especially when they are teething. And now that most of our dogs are more than a year old, there's one particular fur family who is still consistent with her doing. She's 'Hams' my yellow Labrador retriever. I thought that she will never get to my sandals because she's been scolded by my sister more than 3 times when Hams chewed on her sandals. Much to my surprise when I woke up this morning, one of my sandal was right beside her while she was still sleeping. I didn't suspect until I was fully awake and took a closer look. I'm glad I wasn't in a bad mood because I just woke up, and then a few minutes later I held my chewed sandal in front of Hams' face as she noticed that I was awake. I've heard on TV that dogs don't understand what you are saying, but it may just be me because, it was obvious that Hams distanced herself and she was avoiding me. I couldn't stay mad with her and maybe sometimes I'm lenient. I'll just have to monitor her whenever she's loose so as not to keep on counting my chewed up sandals. Is it true though that the dogs may have worms when they don't stop their chewing habit? What are the remedies if it is?

I'm not really sure if one reason why dogs chew stuff is because they have worms. What I do know is that Labradors are known to be very playful that sometimes they destroy stuff :) You really just have to be careful with your things. If she fancies your sandals, just make sure you keep them where Hams won't find them. If you however suspect that she might have worms, why not ask your vet about it. Or if you have a backyard with grass, let her roam around and see if she eats some grass. If she does, there's something wrong with her digestive system. It could be worms or anything. I was told it's a dog's instinctive way of purging whatever is wrong in their stomachs.

You can say that again about Labradors! This has been my dream breed dog, and I have no regrets, I absolute love Hams(except when she chews something important)! Our vet told us that a Labrador's characteristic of being playful will almost last for 3 years. I know that one factor in disciplining our fur family is that we stick with the routine and also being consistent with their activities like walking, dog socialization, exercises, and diet. It will help us as dog owners to give them proper care. I'm not an expert yet about dogs, but the fur family we have at home are continuously teaching me so much! I'll discuss my concern with my vet again as I feel that Hams is not teething if I'm not mistaken, I've had them de-wormed. I don't know if it was effective though. If Hams is purging something that may be wrong with her stomach, I'm worried. I really pray it's not, but you're right that Hams does try to eat the grass... Oh no, I'm worried.

Don't be. Labradors are as strong as they come. I'm sure she'll be okay. Just have a vet check her again :)
