Reading instructions/directions...

I've observed myself that I am not fond of reading instructions and directions. I know that this is bad because the possibilities of making mistakes is very high.
I'm more of the type who likes to be hands-on, this may not be effective all the time, but my way of understanding is more of repetition. Like the time when I was assisting preschool classes, the daily routine was a repetition of the basic greetings, alphabet, songs, and the typical things you teach preschoolers. I think I'm like them.
I'm afraid to make mistakes but definitely that's how I learn more effectively. But when it comes to major examinations or something like that, I'll have to be more disciplined and make sure that I reread directions, so I won't too many scores on the test. I've heard a story before that someone who was very careful in making sure that they followed every instructions of the test in order to get a good grade. Reviewing everything and after submitting the test, this person was happy with the effort exerted. Upon receiving the result of the exam, this person was in shock because the answers may have been correct, but unfortunately the test wasn't valid because of one very simple mistake. The person forgot to write their name on top of the exam paper! I feel for this person's disappointment.
Remembering this story I heard, I should be more cautious of the basic and the most important rules, to be observant and at the same time, be calm and take it easy.
But definitely, making sure that I understand what I need to do, if I don't read instructions/directions, then what I'll do is ask people who may be knowledgeable.
What do you call people who are more into remembering/registering things by hearing and by repetition?

When my sister tells me to read the instructions before doing anything, I'd like to say that I depend on her to read it for me. LOL. She's my opposite because she is a thorough reader when it comes to manuals and instructions. I guess I'm hasty sometimes. I have to be careful...(^_^)

@lilaclady - Hi! I know that this is an old post, however, it'd like to thank you for participating. (^_^) I'll tell my sister that. She knows that I'm at her mercy whenever we need to get things straight.

I am the same way as you. I like reading stories/novels/books, but I totally dislike reading instructions. I hate screwing up, but like you, I'm more of a hands-on learner. Instructions generally make no sense to me. I've found the best way for me to learn something, especially something mechanical (like the other day, when my Windshield wiper broke off on my car, I bought a new one, and it had instructions, which of course I promptly put aside), I like to see an example of what it looks and acts like correctly when it's installed the right way, and then just mess around, trial-and-error style until I figure out how exactly it works and how to put it together. I don't usually toss the instructions until I successfully put whatever it is together. That's my 'back up' plan. Even though reading a manual is like pulling teeth for me. UGH!

I know that this has been more than a year delayed of a response but I thank you nonetheless for giving out your opinion. (^_^) For me it's interesting to go through the trial and error stage when it comes to making things, of course, by being careful at the same time. Hope that things are great with you!
