Feeding the Birds and Along Comes a Predator

OK I was told yesterday when I woke up that there was another hawk in the yard and this time it took a pigeon as it's prey. There have been a number of them lately preying on the birds we feed in the backyard. Would this make you upset to learn that a hawk is catching & eating the birds you feed outside or do you think I'm over reacting and should just think it's their nature and they all have to eat? I'm thinking of not feeding the other birds anymore in order to spare their life from this bigger bird that preys on them but is it really the solution? I wish the hawk would go into the woods and just catch mice or other rodents.

I guess it's nature's way of preserving the ecological balance. You might be right though of not feeding the birds. It's just making it easier for the hawk to catch food. It might in a way affect the balance since the hawk would be able to kill more of its prey than it would if it's hunting in the woods.

Sadly it's the way all the wild animals live and carry on, I know. But I don't want to make it an easier in the sense I'm setting our other birds up for them, thats not my intention. Maybe I'll just cut back on it, I won't want to starve the other birds either who I'm feeding but maybe they can find other food? Its winter time and not that much snow here but still I feel like we've fed them here for so long, where else could they go.
