Dear Mylotters,
Eventually, I will visit Philippines end of this year. I will spend around 2 weeks there. Can anyone help me with something here; Where is the best part of Philippines I can go? As I know, Manila is really crowded and busy city. I also heard about Baguio and Tagaytay. I did some researd on both and they seems to be interesting place!! Well, any more place I can visit? South or North part of Philippines better?

That would be great if you're going to travel here in the Philippines. You can also try to visit the Eastern Part of the Philippines, it's the province where am I located. This part is really not that popular but we do have to many beautiful scenery here. In the Visayas, The most popular city is Cebu.

Yes, there is a typhoon but it is not always as what you think. But, then the Mindanao part is not that safe because of there was an incident of kidnapping.

I also heard about Cebu City!! Looks like it's an interesting city to be, one of the most developed province in Philippines! Is it true that Cebu has a lot of beautiful islands?
About Mindanao, seems like many things happened. Is it really frequent that foreigners will be kidnapped?

I haven't yet been there but I think that Cebu is the best place to fly to in the Philippines. Then you will be able to see some of the beaches near to that island and hop across to Bohol Island to see the Chocolate Hills. These are worth seeing in the dry season when they will be brown. I know that Boracay is a very popular little island. I would visit Palawan and the islands just before there too. Good luck planning your trip.

Hi Lucas!
I have not been to the Philippines yet, so I'm looking forward to reading the responses you get from the people who already have been there.
One thing I found interesting from the people I know that are from there, is that Spanish is widely spoken, in addition to English and Tagalog.
Hope this helps!

I am from Manila, and I also grew up in the South of Philippines - Davao... Filipino (and there are also other dialects - tagalog, visayan, etc.) is the main language and people are very much capable in speaking English. Spanish is no longer use a medium of communication these days... in fact if you travel outside of Manila (e.g. Cebu, Tacloban, etc.) people prefer to talk in English.

Hi Lucas! If you are to spend only 2 weeks here, I would suggest you go to the much known tourist spots. If you arrive in Manila, you can stay here for a day or 2 so you can go to Tagaytay. Taal lake which is in Tagaytay is regarded by one of the travel sites as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Also if you are adventurous enough, you can cross the lake and take a hike to the crater of Taal volcano. After that you can go straight to Baguio for some cool breeze. And if you want to see the famous Banawe Rice Terraces, go drive northward to Banawe and Sagada. After that, you can drive to Ilocos Norte to see some of the World Heritage Sites Like the Paoay Church and the cobble stoned streets of Vigan. Then take a relaxing dip in one of the beaches of Pagudpod. Then you can fly back to Manila from Laoag and begin your journey to the south.
After that trip to the north of the Philippines, I guess that will give you one week more to enjoy the south. For this, you can choose 2 out of these 6 famous spots in the south. These are Boracay, Cebu, Palawan, Siargao, Cagayan de Oro and Davao. Boracay, regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for so many years now can be your first destination. You can enjoy the long white sand beaches for some days and enjoy the variety of water sports available in that island. Cebu also boasts of some white sand beaches but not as long and not as white as Boracay. Cebu also boasts of some good dive sites if you are into diving. While in Cebu, you can visit Bohol. Same as Boracay and Cebu, it boasts of some of the whitest beaches here in the Philippines. Also you can take a city tour and see the smallest primates in the world, the tarsier and see the famous Chocolate hills. Palawan is said to be the Last Frontier because of its virgin forests. Palawan is also the home to one of the new 7 natural wonders of the world, the Underground River which can be found in Puerto Princesa city. You can also do some island hopping there and visit the open prison of Iwahig. North of Palawan, you can find El Nido and Coron. They are known for their famous limestone cliffs, emerald green waters and their bird's nest soup. Siargao is popular among the surfers. There you can find Cloud Nine, known to have been in the top 5 list among the best surfing sites in the world by famous surfers. If you want wild adventures, go to Cagayan de oro. Name it, they have it. Rapelling, spelunking, river rafting, zipline, canopy walks etc. If you want to test your limits, go to Cagayan de oro. Davao is one city in the Philippines where they have it all, the beaches, the mountains, the nightlife, good food, a little of those outdoor adventure etc. Best to do here is visit the Philippine Eagle site, climb Mt Apo (tallest mountain in the Philippines) or just lay down the beautiful beaches of Samal Island.
