Are you proud of yourself?

I have these favorite Chinese movies entitled "Fearless" and "Shaolin". Not only I can enjoy the kungfu action, but I can also learn something from it. Both movies, mainly tell about a man who achieves a great success in his life and become an arrogant person. He doesn't care about other people's feelings. He only thinks about how to keep winning and achieving more success. And then one day, because of his mistake, he has to lose everything: family, fame, friends. So I thought, if someone can be very successful and has everything but he/she pays it with so much pride and ignores other people, does it worth it? We can get the fame back, but how about family and friends? Moreover if they're dead because of us? Why we should sacrifice the things that are more important for nothing?

I think what ms piggy wanted to say is that being proud is NOT the same with being arrogant. Arrogant means 'sombong' in Indonesian but proud is 'bangga'. I think we should be proud to ourselves, of course in a good manner, it means don't be proud of yourself too much, maybe you will be close to be an arrogant person. being proud will help us in having strong confidence to face other people or in dealing with problems. so don't get it wrong Adhyz, being proud doesn't mean that you're arrogant. of course, nobody wants to be an arrogant person, but everybody should be proud of themselves cos everybody has quality. so are you proud of yourself, Adhyz?

You're proud of being arrogant??? Wow...this is something new. Arrogant's definition is more to the negative meaning. In fact, it's always negative. Proud's definition is more to the positive meaning. It depends on how the people apply this pride in their life. The definition is clear. I've just known there's someone who's proudly saying that he's arrogant.

I abhor selfish way of living and being snobbish . Although I don't have everything of the world or huge resources which makes me rich and gives me authority yet I can confidently say that even if I had those things I would not have been full of pride and ignore others . In the other sense I am proud of being a faithful and dutiful daughter and taking due care of my parents . I am a proud woman and feel so because God has empowered women especially with the unique power of being the source of creation . Have a nice day

I definitely agree with you. Pride can be in many ways of thinking. I'm also proud of myself in hopefully a positive way. I have beloved parents, I have wonderful people around me, I have a good job. And I'm also proud to be a woman. :) ;)

I won't say i am proud of myself since i am not a proud person personally. But i do feel at peace with myself and contended with my achievement so far. I am not a kungfu master, and doesn't want to win all the time by all costs, it is for the arrogant and shallow person.

First, you don't have to be a kungfu master to be successful. Lol. And second, yes, I agree with you. At least we're comfortable with ourselves and grateful for what we have now, that's already a success. :)

But i want to be a kungfu master not because i want success, it is because i want to be disciplined like a Shaolin monk, be able to catch mosquitoes and flies with my bare hand and chop stick.

I am proud of myself not arrogant. I mean I am much luckier than others who are probably less fortune and miserable. I am proud of myself because I still have the capability to think clearly and have complete bodily organ.

There is nothing to be arrogant about. If you found such arrogant people, simply ask them to get off their high horse, right.? Arrogancy is usually derived from one's ancestor but it can be eliminated by realising that arrogancy hurts other people.

Unfortunately not all people realize that they are being arrogant. Some of them might think that it's a normal feeling that they feel proud of what they have achieved. The problem is, they don't realize that they are hurting the people around them.

Yeah, I could say I am, sometimes. Not all the time. There are times when I feel like I have done so many things that I am so proud of myself but there are also times when I feel like I have not accomplished anything.. When I feel proud of myself, of course my confidence level goes up and I just love it because during those times, I am not shy speaking to people

No. Not for a while. I felt pretty good about myself for many years, but after losing loved ones and getting depressed over it all and letting my business go down the hill, I stopped thinking much of myself. I feel like I will get to feeling better about myself, but you are never quite the same after you lose your close loved ones and friends.

I'm sorry about your loss. But at least you didn't feel proud in negative way, did you? And yes, I think I agree with you. Everything is not the same after I lost my brother five years ago. It seems there's something missing...

I am also proud of myself but i know my limitations. I mean, being rich or fame doesn't mean you will lose the people you love. It only happen if you take them for granted or you are already too boastful and self-centered. You can be proud of yourself but also aware of the abilities of others. Very busy with your career without stepping other people and still giving time with your love ones.

I agree. But not many people can differentiate the pride, whether they take it in a positive way, or the negative one. Sometimes we might think we won't lose the people we love by being rich, but is it the truth? It's possible that the reason they're still around us is because we're rich?

First, yes, I love pigs! :D I think they're cute! Lol. Second, that's a positive pride in you and still normal. :) I'm also proud of myself as long as it's included into the things you've mentioned. About grades, even when it was not good, I always felt proud because I did it myself. If I cheated, I wouldn't tell my parents. :D Lol.

i ever had a period being arrogant, but not long i found many are better than me at sth ,there's nothing proud or arrogant thing on me.so i feel not proud of myself neither self-abased~ sorry i haven't seen this movie, but i think successful men may spend less time with their families,or thinking about relationships.they're busy doing their own things, they don't sacrifice, they just pay less time

i would rather say,am not proud of myself..i am just a silent type of woman who kept my accomplished work in a silent way.i dont like to shout to the world that i finish my career, that i acheive medals and so on and so forth.i just kept it and used it in a right way.by that, i still go forward and hoping to get more for the future...thats all

Hi Miss Piggy: That sounds like a a very interesting plot for a film. Even if I don't have everything I want, I feel proud of myself because I stay faithful to my values. I have a family and I have enough reasons to keep working finding my happiness. I don't think having things we consider are the key of "success" is a good reason to regret our values and to lose the people we love. Of course not. Thanks for sharing this discussion with us. Hi, I am very proud of myself! What does it mean? To me first of all is respect for my vaules and also consider that in my life I am not alone, so family and friends are important to respect and take into consideration. To feel proud being selfish is nothing to be proud of!

I so agree with you. If it is about those values you mentioned, then yes, I'm also proud of myself. But I hope I won't be a selfish person and be proud of something unworthy.

It depends from person to person. One may find it worthy to break up with all his relatives and family members in order to achieve a name and fame in the world. Take Steve Jobs for an example ,he dis give the world so much which he always be remembered for but if you look at his personal life, you will get to know what he sacrificed /let go for his professional career. What he did was driven by his experiences and what we do depends on our experiences. i may find it hard to go to some other country for job leaving my family at home while some other person would love to go outside for his professional blossoming. I guess you are getting my point now.:)
