I just want to have the best college education for me, the best college life I can ever imagine. I want to be FREE!!! But there are just some circumstances that I still need to surpass so that my very dream will come true. After I knew I passed the UPCAT, I felt happiness at the same time worried. Happy because of course, I'm only a step closer to my dream and worried that I might not achieve it. I'm from Cebu that's why my mom had to think very hard esp. because we're not that rich. She said that it'd be better if I study in UP Cebu because it's nearer... But I want in DILIMAN... DILIMAN...

Apply for a scholarship. This would depend upon the financial status of your parents. Since you are from Cebu, it would be quite expensive to study in UP Diliman. Boarding houses can be quite expensive that even if you get approved for partial scholarship, it might still be a burden for your parents. You might be excited at the moment to have a taste of some freedom but being away poses many disadvantages. I also passed the UPCAT test many years ago but I didn't enroll in UP Diliman because of the distance from our home which was in Manila. I was supposed to enroll in UP Baguio but I chose Saint Louis University. Think about it carefully. Consider the financial situation of your parents.

Actually, we're not that poor, we could afford. It's just that my parents are too budget conscious. They have overlooked the prestige and the quality education UPD is offering. As for the scholarship, I'm currently searching for one. Do you know any? The one for valedictorians that don't need too many requirements?

UP does not give scholarships according to the honors that have been earned by the student. If I remember right, it is called Iskolar ng Bayan, however, I am not really sure since it has been years ago. If it were so, then majority of the students would be given scholarships since those in the upper top class of graduating students always dreamed of passing the UPCAT exams and have the privilege of enrolling in UP. Since the scholarship will be granted to you according to the financial means of your parents, then I don't think you can avail if the parents can afford to send you to school without any hardships. The parents I am sure have not overlooked the advantages of you enrolling in UP but they may be worried of the distance from home. Add to that the recent news on the security lapses in UP Diliman due to the lack of security guards and policemen patrolling the area.

Studying in a prestigious institution is great! But if your parents really can't afford it then you should understand your parents. I do believe that it is not in the school wherein you can get the best education, it is in the person itself.

My parents can actually afford. They're just too budget conscious. I even promised them to find part time jobs there but still they aren't convinced :(

If you want to study in Main UP in Diliman, it's nice if you can afford. It is the center of education and wisdom of UP. It is to far for you because it needs lots of money. But if you can afford, proceed your dream. But UP Cebu is in your neighbor and you can afford. For me, anywhere if it is UP is okay. It is a big chance for you. Follow this time your mother to achieve your dreams. UP MABUHAY.

I really hope I can study in Diliman. The feeling is very different. I want to be far away from home!! :D My mother's concern is not really about the money, we can actually afford. But she's too budget conscious.

if you are fit enough fo that institution you must persevere to what course do you choose and dont be too anxious if you cannot afford a high tuition fees, you can apply for a scholarship if you are capable enough to fulfill your college dreams. so good luck buddy and have a great college life too.
