Some people say this is the hardest thing to understand from the Bible : 1 Peter 3:18-20 NIV "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water..." 1 Peter 3:18-20 KJV "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison,Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water... " What is your interpretation of these words ? How hard is it to understand what it`s written there ? Why do you think people understand different things when they read this passage ?

I said the bible protestants are using today is incomplete because even the KJV bible had 80 books. There i questioned someone`s right to remove parts from the bible and why they hide the other 14 books from the people. As you can see i also posted the same paragraph from the NIV version even if i think that is a bad version of the bible.

What is the problem if i quote from KJV ? I posted 2 versions of the same text to make sure everyone will be satisfied but if you use another version of the bible then read it and tell me what it is written there.I don`t want to argue i just want to read people`s opinions about what it is written there. ( Btw when did i said something against KJV bible ? )

I don't believe people can casually understand those verses. Jesus said we must become as little children to get into the Kingdom of Heaven. That is, we must be teachable to be willing to be taught to understand and accept those verses. The Word of God is spiritually discerned, and without a basic commitment to seek out the truth and believe it, it will be impossible to understand. The carnal mind is God's enemy and will never accept the things of God. It is a lifelong commitment to get in the Word and find out the remarkable things of the Spirit.

That doesn't follow Iuliuxd, 2 people may come up with 2 complimentary interpretations, and this, in my experience, seems more common, rather than 2 contradictory ones all the best urban

Urban why don`t you try to give your own interpretation to these words and then go and search on the internet for other interpretations and let`s see if they are complementary or not.

So you think one can`t understand what is written in the bible unless he will become a child ? How do you know you have the commitment to seek out the truth ? If 2 people read a piece of text and they come up with 2 different interpretations it usually means one of them is right and one is wrong. How do we know which one is right ?

Imagine this if you will! Someone(2000 years ago) with little or no education, relates a story that they do not understand. This awesome, almost unbelievable story is then related down through many generations by word of mouth. Eventually someone, probably a University Grad, who graduated at a modern Elementary level of Grade 3, copies this story onto a piece of papyrus, where it survived for 500 years before being translated 275 (or even more times)by priests or theological students, who disputed certain passages, adding or subtracting, for reasons of their own, until we have today's modern Bible! Would an intelligent person bet their eternal life on such a piece of gibberish, or even take it seriously?

My response to your Post is my interpretation! Of course I don't believe, and I have shown why! How better to answer your Post?

Simple. One writes this :" Passing through? Not on your life. Which I would gladly sacrifice, by the way, for the opportunity of destroying everything that he represents. And, Otis, by the way, next time put my robe on after I'm out of the pool. " Then he asks what is your interpretation of these words ? Instead of answering you tell him " Oh come on Superman is just a stupid movie and he and Lex Luthor never existed ".While this may be true it doesn`t answer his question.

Hmm, I'm not much into bible interpretations and bible study... but this is how I understand the verse: Jesus Christ suffered for the sins of the people. A good person sacrificed for the benefit of the people who are not good. To give them a chance to redeem their selves. err... the rest of that, i don't know anymore.

Hi Aja and thanks for your answer. The hard part i was talking about is the part where you can read about the spirits in prison.I was interested to hear your opinion about what happened back then.
