Transcription job can be entertaining, educational and boring...

Transcription does have its ups and downs. It can be very informative and entertaining or downright boring :) I've been in a similar industry for almost 6 years now but we also deal with captioning these transcripts. With regards to Scribbie, you can't really choose the file in the real sense. You're only given a portion of the file in order for you to assess if you want to transcribe it or not. Also, the file is divided into 6-minute parts and placed on a queue. So by the time you finish one file, other transcribers would have finished the other parts. So you don't get to really learn something from what you transcribed. But it's really a good site since there's no quota for you to meet :)

I have been invited months ago to join Scribbie but up to now I haven't joined. First is that, my paypal is not yet verified as I find no time going to Union Bank to have it verified. The other thing is that I was thinking whether I need to pay Scribbie for something in order to get transcription jobs. I would love to do the job there, and try to be qualified before registering but part of me is asking whether I would be happy transcribing or would it take a lot of my time.

This is not a job I have really heard much about being available here in the US so not sure if it is something I would be interested in wanting to do or not. For me many times the things online I find for Income, that even pay wages like a job usually are not something I am sure I would want to commit too.

Hi snowhybiscuis, I am a transcriptionist by profession, in particular medical transcription though I have tried general transcription too. I have been working in this field for more than 7 years already. For me, transcription is an everyday learning experience. The reason is because everyday I learned new English terms being dictated by multiple dictators. You need a dictionary in this regard with good hearing acuity. Being a transcriptionist needs a lot of patience regardless if the file is easy or difficult with a high or less turn around time. God bless.

I was going to community college once to take transcribing courses but after having family problems I had to drop out after the first semester. It sounds as if you have a good job though. Good luck with the picking your own projects.
