my boss: bro you're in big trouble
me: why sir? but smiling...
boss: Get your a$$ ready to wake up 4 in the morning.
And I was like.. oh thank you sir!
because it's a good news for me, and I actually requested him about this a month ago because I love working in the morning because of so many reasons..
I love the fact that it takes me only 30 minutes to go to work which usually takes an hour or an hour and a half in the afternoon,
I love the cool morning breeze, I feel so relaxed going to work unlike in the afternoon,
After office hours I have so much time to do other activities like watch tv, go out with my special someone, play basketball, read books, drink out with my buddies, and of course mylotting because when I am in the afternoon shift when I arrived home it's already pass midnight that there is nothing much to do and even if there is I already feel so tired and sleepy..
I have time to see and talk to my niece and nephews, because when I was working in the afternoon shift I only get to see them on weekends..
and many other reasons..
Do you receive good news in an odd way like this?
Do you like working in the morning like me? What do you like about morning in particular? or you prefer working in the afternoon? or night shift?
Would you mind sharing the reasons?!

Hi phillyguy,
Make sure you sleep early, waking up at 4 everyday is no joke! For me, waking up at 7 is good enough, I can't go any earlier but I do like to be on the morning shift. I do not like working late or getting home late. Morning gives me more energy and a clear head.

actually I work in the morning for a year and was just transferred in the afternoon like 4 months ago, I don't have any problem waking up early sometimes I even wake up before the alarm rings..and it's weird that when I am in the afternoon shift even when I sleep for 10 hours I still feel like it's not enough and still have a hard time waking up even it's already 12 noon while when I am in the morning shift usually I only sleep for 4 - 6 hours but It's so easy for me to wake up and I feel like I have enough rest already and ready to start the day.

That sounds amazing. I once know a guy who needs only 4 hours of sleep a day, if he sleeps more than that or less than that, he will feel tired. I am generally a morning person and will wake up in the morning anytime from 7-9, regardless of the time I get into bed.

Well I guess your boss is the one who feels happy knowing that you have no complains about it. I prefer to have an office sked of 7AM. Waking up in the morning is not a problem for me. It is only going home that used to made my mood off. You know about the traffic here. I once was at 8:30Am work timing and someone wanted to suggest that for me to have the same time as my best friend from the sister company, she says she'll suggest that I'd be put at 9AM. I told the lady I don't want because I prefer to work earlier than 8:30. I used to reach the office before 8AM.

yeah I think he did because he also needs me in the morning shift. And he was even apologetic when I first ask him about being transferred in the morning because at that time I was needed in the afternoon so he wasn't able to grant my request right away. 8 am is okay because you don't need to wake up very early but the problem is it is the usual office hours here in our country and because of that at that time of the day around 7 am the traffic is already starting to build up and I really hate starting my day getting annoyed by the heavy traffic.

it might be a bad news for others who don't like waking up very early in the morning..but for me this is really a great news maybe your boss has a good reason why he doesn't allow you to change your work time..maybe it will affect others and would need a lot of adjustments about the schedule and the work you are assigned to right now is different from the shift you want to be transferred to or something like that.

The energy of this post of yours is so positive that when I was reading it, I was thinking if it is possible to make my office hours earlier than the present 830am :) When I was in retail line, our managers were inclined to work in the afternoon shift. They said by working in the evening, they would have more time to do their own work, planing, projection etc, while in morning shift, they would usually be tied down in the running of the operation natters. But I feel one of the facts they didn't actually say was that they always went for a drink after work and it was hard for them to wake up early. I know, because I was also doing the same. Our motto was "work hard, party even harder!"

Thanks for the compliment! I just feel like sharing this good news with my fellow mylotters it's just a simple thing but a great one for me. One of the nice things in working in the afternoon shift is when you drink out after work you don't have to worry about getting up early in the morning so you can drink all you want and have fun with your friends 'till morning but that's just one thing compared to a lot of greater things that comes with working in the morning.

yeah I am thankful of this good news because I've been waiting for this since December, after January has passed I am not expecting it anymore and thought that my next chance to be transferred in the morning will be on the end of third quarter or start of fourth quarter of this year. That's why it is such a great news because I didn't expect that I'll be transferred this month. I agree with you that it depends on each person you do have your own reasons why you prefer working at night and I also have my reasons why I like working in the morning and it's good if we are placed in the shift we prefer.

hi phil glad you are getting the shift you wanted. I am not a morning person so when I was working as a nurses aide I worked the 3 to 11 shift which i loved. we had time in the morning to do things as we did not have to be to work til 3 pm and 11 o clock going home meant you could get 8 hrs sleep easily. I am retired and used to stay up til 2 am mylotting. but here I have to turn out my light at ten pm as we are got up at 6 am for breakfast at 7 too early for elderly people lol lol lol.for morning people that shift does sound great. for me no way Jose.

Congrat!
I was also very happy when I was allowed to move to the dayshift crew. I worked 4 years on second shift then 2 years on third shift before I landed my permanent day shift job. It was so hard working an off shift. It seemed like I barely had time to do anything. I like days because I had more time with my children and the third shift made me tired all the time no matter how much sleep I got.

Hi! phillyguy, i don't work in the the call center but i like working before eight in the morning. As much as possible i like to go to the office very early so that i could avoid the rush hour. But sometimes, I have to wait for my daughter who wakes up late and stays longer in the bathroom, and when she is ready it is past seven and traffic is already bad.
Working early is better because it is still quiet, some staff is not yet around and i am able to concentrate better in my work. That way i am more productive and there is a lot of time to do my all my work for the day. So i would still choose starting work earlier than the usual time but not as early as yours.

Hi phillyguy
That is being a great positive person.
Last month two of my works were called off. Blessing in disguise to me. Yes, financially, I did suffer a loss, as I had input about 150 hours already on those two assignments and was expecting a better payment this month. But then, these things do happen in the online world. No issues. Now, I am happy as I have much more time to focus on reading and upgrading myself, also doing my own personal portfolio website that has been kept in waiting since over a few months.
Personally, I love to work whenever I can find peace around. Mornings and Late Nights are really great. My health conditions do not permit me to start my day before 10:00 am and that helped me to get a few assignments to work on at night - happy again as today I have a client from UK and another from US... fits my timings right

hi sids
that is true even "bad news" can turn into a positive one if we will just look at it in a different perspective..sometimes negative events in our life even lead us to a better situation or an opportunity to develop and improve our self. I admire you because even though you are quite limited by your medical condition your're still doing your best to generate income through your programming skills

In general, most don't like morning shift, specially those who love to lie in ,much less waking up 4 in the morning. No wonder your boss said you are in big trouble.I have been retired. when I was at work,I went to work at 8 am and went from work at 5 pm.unless sometimes I travelled on business,I had to get up early so as to be in time for the first train.

I have to admit that, even if I usually start my working day at 8 a.m,it's quite uncomfortable for me to wake up at 6:30 and until I have my morning cup of coffee I don't feel ready to start the day,so I admire people who wake up at 4 a.m.and feel good about it,I think you're quite a rare case, most of us definitely would hate waking up so early to go to work.Anyway,my favorite working hours are in the morning, but not as early as you,of course, because I am at my best at those hours, especially until 12 o'clock,I feel active and full of energy during those hours.I also work quite well in the afternoon after the lunch break, and I don't like working n the evening and at night, but I guess I would be able to change my working hours and adapt if I had a job that would require work in shifts. After a while, our bodies get used to the new hours and we don't find them unusual anymore.

Are you, by any chance, a nurse?
Well, when I was a nursing student, I also prefer the morning shift. I hate working in hospitals in general but morning shift is best. Our reasons are quite similar.
In the morning, I get up early, it's not hot when I go to work, and traffics are rare. In the morning, time goes so fast, because I do a lot of things, I get preoccupied with what I do.
On morning shifts, the day is longer and I can do more things after work. Just like you, I like watching tv, internet surfing, go to my neighbors, etc.
If it was the afternoon shift, I would have to endure the heat of noon to get to work, and many people are out at that time for lunch, the streets are busy at that time. On night shifts, I'm very sleepy and bored at work. I don't have the luxury to sleep either. It would have been okay because I don't have to work so much but... getting there at night is dangerous. There are many opportunistic criminals around at that time, so... no no.

nope not a nurse an office employee, first you took nursing but you hate working un hospitals?? are you in any way forced by your parents to take up that course? ( sorry if I am getting to far, jut curious about your statement ).
When working in the morning the time fly so fast but after that the day seems longer, I thinks that's the simpliest and best way to explain why I find it the best to work in the morning shift.
