This Sunday,ie, 5th Feb 2012 was the 50th anniversary of our passing from school and me and some of our school classmates celebrated the event with a grand get-together at my residence. We were around eleven guys and we had been meeting every year since 2008.Our friends group is really around 24 but are scattered. Most are in my city but around 8 are abroad. All of them could not come due to previous commitments so we decided to split it in two dates the first being 5th Feb and the next being 26th Feb.A couple of my Foreign resident classmates came on 5th and two more will come on the 26th and we will once again celebrate the second time.Have you had any occaision to celebrate like this? Please share with us.

Congratulations! No I haven't had a celebration like this nor will I ever. Once highschool was over I cut all ties with my friends. I guess all of them are on facebook but I am not on Facebook. I have no desire to see them. It is so refreshing to see you guys stayed so close.

That is wonderful. If I caught up with my classmates we wouldn't have Nothing in common. I Knew what we had was fleeting even as it was happening. Besides back then I was planning to die at age 18.

Congrats!
The only 50th I had was my birthday a few years ago.
I don't go to my school reunion. Went once. At the 10 year. The students that showed up, all but 3 were stuck-up snobs. My Father emptied septic tanks for a living and everyone thought I was beneath them. 10 years later, they still thought I was beneath them.
My Mom went to a small school with a graduating class of 11. She loved her reunions.
Mine was 170 and about 100 people showed up, only 3 wanted to be bothered with me. 2007 would have been my 30th, but I didn't go. It's expensive. Formal attire, $50 bucks for dinner and a band.
Now my brother's class has a picnic. Everyone brings some food. They play volley ball and swim. Some sit in the shade and talk. That would be fun and more my style. But more undesirable people like me would show up so they'll never have that. I'm sure they're thankful for the resession, fewer people like me can afford to go.
Glad yours isn't like mine. We graduate in June here for school. Feb would be different for us. Nice topic, thanks and take care.

Sad that 10 years goes by and in both our cases, the stuck up ones learned nothing. In our school it was middle class to high class. The thing that they didn't realize that after my Dad's business got going, we were middle class, too. If Dad hadn't drank so much and my brother hadn't crashed so many cars drinking and driving, I bet we could have been in the bottom of the high monied people.

It must be very interesting to meet your classmates again. Unfortuneately I haven't had the chance to have a reunion with my classmates. Some years after we left school one of my classmates organized a meeting similar to the one that you had with your classmates, but I wasn't able to go about of my work, so I wasn't able to see my classmates again. It would have been nice to talk to them again and hear how their lives have been since we left school. I managed to find some of my classmates on Facebook, but not all of them. The women are hard to find, because many of them changed their names when they got married.

The last celebration like this that my class had was our ten year reunion that was held in 2008. I really wanted to go to it so that I would be able to catch up with some of the people that I had graduated from high school with, but the cost of the event was far more expensive than our family could attend, so we didn't go to it.
However, I have had the opportunity to visit with some of those people that I was the closest to over the years and that does work for me because there were a lot of people in my class that I really didn't know and really wasn't friends with.

2012 is the 60th of my graduating from high school. My class will be one of the honored classes at the annual alumni banquet.
The alumni banquet is open to all persons who have ever been associated with our little school. We were honored in 1962, 1972, 1982, etc. The honor is only getting to eat first and having our individual names called out. To attend this reunion, I would have to drive 500 miles. I thought about going but changed my mind. Now, I';m considering going to the annual get-together of just my class that will be held the closest Saturday to Memorial Day. Just my class will be more intimate. lI'm beginning to feel a need to do this. There were only 18 of us when we graduated, and half of them are gone already.

It was in 2008 that i traced my school classmates and it was in that year after 46 years that we started getting together at my house. This being the 50th year of our class so we decided to make it special. This is just part 1 and part 2 will on the 26th of this month where those who could not make it on the 5th will get together with those who came.So it will be a double celebration.

I think it's great that you all are getting together. I know there are a lot of people that have reunions such as the one you are having but I have never been involved in one.
When I was a child, I remember we had huge family reunions every year. My grandmother would plan them. She was the thread that held everyone together.

jen, i was never involved in family gatherings or reunions during my life because i wasn`t and stil am not very social. However this inspiration to get in touch and trace my old classmates came through one of my classmates with whom i am in touch and thats how it all started. Now of course it has started to become a regular yearly affair and i am curious to see how long this trend will continue.
