So I am wondering what you would think and how you would feel and react if you saw someone biting their toenails. My son who is 4 bites his fingernails all the time lately he has started biting his toenials too. It is so gross to me.
My sister told me that my father in law said that he just stopped biting his toenails a fews ago he said. How gross. I am guessing he was probably just joking but can you even imagine someone an adult sitting around chewing on their toenails. Eww. Most adults probably arent even that flexible and he has a stomach bigger then most full term pregnant women lol so I just cant see him really doing this.

I happened to catch this old discussion of yours and wish to comment because I'm an adult guy whose lived his whole life as a compulsive nail-biter. Despite every effort since childhood to stop the habit, I've never been able to overcome the urge. And as gross and unbelievable as it must seem, I still bite my toenails. I would never do it in front of anyone else (though my wife is aware of it) but when I go barefoot or wear flip flops my toenails appear as badly gnarled as my fingernails to any observer. On occason people have noticed and asked me and with some embarrassment I admit that I bite my toenails. But I've always been known as a nail biter by those around me or who observe me publicly chewing my fingernails or take notice of my hands. And I'm accustomed as a hard-core nail-biter to occasionally suffer slight humiliation. But I've never been as embarrased as many nail biters get. I've always had more a business-as-usual attitude about it. The worst was being nagged by former girlfriends and my wife about it.
To some I probably seem like a totally disgusting person. But I try to be as hygienic as possible. I'm also an educated professional and family man and pretty good sportsman. There are more out there just like me - more than you would think.

That is so gross that you bite your toenails. Thats a really nasty habit but its one that although you have tried are unable to break. I couldnt kiss my husband if he bites his toenails. Hopefully you only bite your nails fresh out of a bath.

Well thats good that at least you make sure you feet are clean before biting them. My mother used to bite her toenails when she was a kid as well. My son doesnt do it quite as bad as he would a few months ago and I hope that he will outgrow it. Biting toenails just seems so gross because they can be stinky but if they are in shoes all day they probably are cleaner then fingers that have been touching things all day.

Yes, as an adult I only bite them after I bathe That wasn't true when I was a youngster, and we know that kids are dirt machines. Actually, the feet and toenails are cleaner and less bacteria-ridden than fingernails because our hands constantly touch everything and have more exposure to micro-organisms. But in any event neither is hygienic. The upside is I must have a superior immune system. Sorry if I grossed you out.

You know, if I really wanted to, I could bite my toenails, but there is absolutely no reason that I would ever want to bite my toenails because of the fact that they are connected to my feet and I tend to think that toes and feet are really nasty.
Now, with a little kid, I can sort of see it because they are smaller and don't really understand the germs that they are going to come into contact with. But, I definitely wouldn't encourage it.

I could bite my toenails to but a lot of adults arent that flexible. Congrats on being so flexible you can do that lol but like you I wouldnt want to either. Ick I have issues with feet. I only touched my husbands feet twice while we were together just to see if I could do it without vomiting. It was just a quick poke. Eww just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach. So if I saw an adult biting their toenails I'm pretty sure I'd have to run to the bathroom.

The only time I have seen that is when infants discover their feet and start sucking on their toes!

LOL right and then it is cute. When an adult is doing it or a kid my sons age doing it I think it is gross. I keep telling my son not to do it when I see him doing it but he wont listen. He never did it before he just started doing it recently. I hope he quits soon and it doesnt develop into a lifelong gross habit ick.

I could never understand that. But remember, you son is a kid. And I doubt that he will wind up biting his toenails when he gets older. And since he is young and you might fee that he might do that, you could train him now not to do that.
