Is pasta really the fatting carbs that everyone says? or is it the ingredents that we put on the top, like butter, sauces, gravies or whatever?? I am really not a pasta lover because I don't like red sauces and just have never had a strong desire for pasta...the white sauce is another story, I llike that stuff...LOL... But what is your opinion on this subject..

both the pasta and sauce. i guess.. pasta--carbs. sauce-- calories. combine them together, what do you think? but eating just enough is not bad at all. eating too much is fattening.

Answering a question with a question is a very useful technique for continuing a discussion, if it's used properly. If people simply gave answers or stated opinions all the time without allowing for or encouraging further discussion on those opinions, MyLot would not be half the vibrant and useful site it is!

thanks shimi, for your feedback, but just let me say I am not use to mylotters answering a question with a question,,, But this is what I think, eating to much of pasta or anything is probably fattening..... I am not sure how much "eating just enough" really is...

Pasta is pretty healthy on its own, but the rich, fatty sauces we put on top just pile on masses and masses of calories. Carbohydrates are high in calories, but are fast-burning foods that provide our bodies with necessary energy, whereas the fatty, buttery or whatever sauces have little or no nutritional value.

Well pasta is one of my favorite food. I guess the carbs that were getting is from the pasta, the sauce contributes many different aspects in our health, but for what is worth its just a very tasty meal and I know I can't resist it if its in the table.

Well it is not really fattening but it is still a problem if you eat too much of it because what the body does not use for energy it turns in to sugar and that sugar turns in to fat. We do need some carbs like this in our bodies. Our bodies do need them but they actually need only a small amount of them so any excess will be stored by the body as fat. If you stick to a serving size which is really not all that much you can eat pasta and be fine. But go over that serving size and you have given your body extra to deal with.

whole wheat pasta is better for you,has more fiber, and it digest slower,so a small portion does not harm you,and it gives you energy. As to the topping, make your own sauce, from fresh ingredients, like, lean meat, fresh tomatoes, garlic herbs and spices and you got yourself a good healthy meal.Eaten in moderation, cooked healthy pasta dishes are good and good for you.

There is NO one food that is fattening. There is no reason to restrict foods to lose weight. That would be a diet and most of us fail miserably on diets. I eat whatever I want but I weigh it. Last night I made baked ziti. I ate a 4 ounce serving. I always weigh my food because I don't trust myself to eye ball it. Enjoy your pasta. It's total calories in and calories out that determines if we gain, lose or stay the same.

From what they said on Dr. Oz today its the pasta that is fattening...they did a whole show on dieting and how to be successful...pasta was brought up as something that will make you gain or at lesat retain weight.

I think any pasta is fat but if you can eat and like wheat pasta then i suggest eating that because it wont be as fatening as just buying the regular pasta aand that will help you out in the long run as well. If you dont like pasta like you stated then just stay away from it all together and you wont ever have to worry about eating the fat pasta LOL.
