After reading several different discussions it still amazes me to hear new and older users say they have no idea why their responses were deleted. I thought all newcomers were given a link to the guidelines? does not any one here ever read them anymore?are they written in Sanskrit or dutch or German? no so why not just read them and know the rules of making discussions? Is the term guidelines offensive or what?your take mylotters.am I the only nerd here who thought to read them when I first came? help.

Good question, I still see many are being deleted, and it kind of concerns me that no one is actually reading them. They have some important details in them, and we must educate ourselves as to what they are so that the deletion doesn't happen as frequent. It seems right after I post the discussion is deleted too.

hi nailtech I got your meaning okay. yes its seems that a lot ]of people do not realize that the in formaiton in the guideline is just what theyneed when they wonder why something was deleted. to read the guidelines first seems a practical step to me.

It is true. Whenever we start a discussion or post a response we do it with a idea that it is conforming to FAQ guidelines and it may not be deleted. But sometimes we do err and they get deleted. I do not worry about these. I have other problems in my mind -- grand sons suffering from fever/cough etc.

You know, it reminds me of when I was in school and we were constantly told to read the directions before doing anything. In the directions it would say only fill out your name and nothing else...Lol Most of the class did not read them and would fail because they did not read the directions!! That taught me a valuable lesson. Always read directions no matter where I am. So many classmates of mine failed that test though so I would imagine people are still the same way. Some people just do not like reading these things, I do not know why! I just got my first discussion deleted a couple weeks ago because it was considered a poll type question which I really didn't think it was but I just re-worded it better and did it over which was fine. I do try to help others when they do not realize but they should start reading the directions!

hi lovingMyBabies I also have helped newcomers and explained that they had broken a rule and which one. but when I dare to suggest'they read the guidelines I get flak you do not like newcomers ,you are not helpful, so what am I supposed to do take them by the hand and spend an h our writing all thje stuff down from the guidelines and losing all feeling in my right hand,. the information is there and if they cannot'read it then how can they read all our other discussions?reallyh others with English as a second language have read the guidelines and do not lose many if any discussions. guess I should have never written'this at all.

Don't feel that way Hatley. I was hoping my response would lighten the mood a little bit. I tried. =( I think this was a good discussion. Never let a few people bring you down. Especially when the person that upset you have not been a very nice person here to most...I made a discussion not long ago that I wish I never wrote too. I'm sorry your upset. Here is a hug for you...

This is a good thing to remind all the New users, and even some of the older ones about reading the Rules here and see and understand why some discussions are removed, as well as responses as well. It will not always clarify everything, and some will deliberately forget or try to press their luck, but it will sure help to clarify some reasons of things not to post for sure.

We have a lot of new users who are quite intelligent and bring some fresh ideas to my lot too. A lot of them do read the information.

hi dawn how are things going? I am just recovered from walking pneumonia.I think its addled my brain as I have got so much static when all I wanted was to make people aware that they could learn which discussions have broken rules by reading the guidelines. I m told I am mean, rude, unkindf to newcomers and you know what, they are also being rude and mean to this old comer. they are judging me and do not even know me.I did mot spell out all the rules as I am now suffering with carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand and cannot type pages and pages to explain all the dos and donts to newbies when they could just read them. my right hand goes numb and I cannot type anymore til I get the circulation back.

Hatley you need to stop doing this! People just aren't getting it even when you and others try! I don't worry about this and if I see a discussion like that I don't even read it! I pass it up and go to something else! There is more to Mylot then trying to get newbies to read and understand the guidelines! This is one reason why I stay away from answering alot of discussionS! It is hopeless! I don't want to see one of my respones deleted and people like this aren't worth it! I do my thing and it makes me happy! If I kept on worring about this,I would of been long gone and never would of come back! Life is to short to worry about things you can't control!

Hi Hatley, thanks for this good reminder. I do read the guidelines whenever i am free. But, when i was too excited with the discussions, my mind got forgotten about those guidelines again. So, i got to accept it when the admin came across and deleted some of my responses. Hope you are always doing fine over there, Hatley.

hi myfbv2009 and CTHanum it takes a little time to really unserstand all the guidelines and I have had to reread them] as some are almost but not quite clear. but I have noticed lately I have not lost as many responses so am getting better at spotting ones which have broke a rule. the pole thing to me is the hardest at times to know if the discussion really broke that rule or not. I know those that seem to be taking a survey are definitely poll type. oh I am seeing blue again and its my favorite colorwow.

Long time no new discussion from me except my comments to others so I rarely get notifications about my posts get deleted now.. Most of the time, I try to avoid myself to bother about about discussions which discuss about things like what have stated in Mylot guidelines even if it is not clearly enough stated what are they~(^^)

Well to be honest I have been a little confused with some that have been deleted, I have read the guidelines and there has been some discussions deleted that I have not been sure where the guidelines have been ignored the only thing I can think of in some cases is because someone have replied with something after I have replied with something against the rules....

hi casandra and lilac I think for most of us the poll types are the hardest to decide if they are or are not breaking the rule I asked GoAsAlice about it and he said that even the admins have trouble at times deciding the poll type whether or not a discussion has broken that rule. but still reading the suidelines will give you a pretty good help

I get things deleted occasionally, but I usually can think of how the discussion might not fit the guidelines. I do not complain. Mylot does a good job of telling us about it, though. That would be my question, do they not read the notification. What people need to remember is that who pays you gets to set the rules. I make the rules if you come to my house. We are in MyLot's house.

I am more careful now too but sometimes I see someone so new you have to feel sorry and I take time to tell them they broke the rule, and what rule it was, and that if they read the guidelines they will then be able to make discussions that do not break any rules. also they will be able to steer clear of discussions that have broken a rule.I have read and reread the guidelines and it has helped me a lot.

Yes. Percentage of deletion of responses has come down considerably in the last two months or so -- because I post a few and also take care not to post in areas which are doubtful in nature. Rules are to be followed and adhered strictly.

Guidelines are written for a reason. some people just don't think they need to go by the rules. They can't believe anyone would delete their work either no matter what they wrote. It is their own fault if things get deleted. Concepts get blurred when people don't pay attention.

hi celticeagle tell me about it. I used to live in tustin and worked in the Tustin orange county branch of the library. We closed on some holidays but us pages got to work extra hours. so there would be a neat big enough sign closed due to Labor 'Day or "Thanksgiving or whatever holiday it was. Okay so people would come to the d oors ,yank on them then call out" Are y ou closed today:? I needed to renew my book." I yelled back yes we are closed today as I was thinking Lady read the sign. lack of common sense indeed.

No, when I first became a member of Mylot I red them. Many times though, I need to refresh my memory so I go back and re read. We live in an instant age and people are not willing to spend the time reading guidelines. They just want to begin and get on with the business of making money. I like the friendships apart from not having much time these days or for the past year really. I do hope that you are now in perfect health and got rid of the bronchitis. Thank you also for your concern re my family's latest drama. Life can change in a second. I will post but am a bit fragmented. It concerns the health of my youngest granddaughter. tears in my eyes. hi kalyni2011 I too have seen some deleted while others seem just like them are not. I once asked GoAskAlice and he told me that that poll type is also hard for him sometimes to decide if the discussion did break that rule or not,so guess we are in good company. Hope you and Professor are doing fine. I woke up last night with painful cramps going up the inside of my left leg, they lasted for about six minutes but seemed to go on forever. I dont know if my snacking too much]and having high blood sugar triggered it or what. whats so sillyu is when I took my blood sugar when I got up this morning it was only 60 so I had some marshmallows I ate that brou ghnt it back up to 100. It happens all the time, doesn't it? They want to just start earning money and not read the guidelines. They just want to ask about what they should be reading about. Like: Why was my discussion deleted? When do I get my star? Why must I read the guidelines? and so on. I just got a notification that my response was deleted... I wonder why???? It seems I answered a poll discussion or something... I try to avoid them like the plague but still get sucked into them from time to time.

I still see some discussions being deleted that as far as I can tell do not violate the guidelines. What I am talking about are ones that if they are going to be deleted, than the whole topic of questions and answers should be deleted.

hi stealthy I think you are talking about the poll type questions in which the poster asks how many like blue or how many of you do not like cheese on your pizza? these are questions you can answer with a yes or no and too they are polling the mylot audience like taking a survey..not all questions will stand as most are poll type. the thing is to make a discussion you need something people can actually discuss and in poll type there is nothing to discuss.questions that lead to a discussion are n ot deleted. but to ask a yes or no question does not make a discussion. yes I think for a more modern mylot audience the admins could make the don'ts a lot clearer so they are black and white. Also I think a lot of modern people do not want to think too hard and the admins cannot be faulted for that.stealthy also remember the admins asks us to report ones that break rules so they do not always catch all of those that break rules.

That's what I'm confused with. I like starting a thread at the Question and Answer portion but one or two will get deleted. I am not wondering why but get to review the guidelines but when I see another discussion that is similar to what I started, I would wonder why mine was deleted when the question is not answerable by Yes or No. Anyway, I know it's my fault but I guess I'm still learning, but as you say, the don'ts should be made a lot clearer. Maybe I would try to avoid starting a discussion at the Q & A. Thanks!

Hi there Hatley, I am one of those that just wrote a discussion about this. Good lord, the guy had been told by at least 3 of us that I know of that the discussions he was responding to were in violation. He ignored all of us and continued on. I reported a number of them...felt kind of bad in doing so but since he chose not to listen...oh well..maybe he will listen to administration. I remember being new and being awkward and feeling as if I didn't belong but I don't remember being real unclear as to the guidelines. I did read them and I think I was directed to them upon signing up...not sure. I joined wanting to do things right. I did screw up...I'm sure I did but I think they were minor screw ups. In all the time I've been here I've only had a handful of discussions and responses deleted. It happens. I go into "new users" discussions and try to welcome them in. I try to respond mainly to those who appear to show a genuine interest in becoming a member here. I also respond to a couple that I know will probably be removed but hopefully they'll get the advice and learn from it.

Hi Hatley, Sorry to hear about your problem with your hand. You still do well on here. I also tell people to go and read the guidelines. I think it is very helpful and what better piece of advice. Once they read the guidelines then if they still have questions, they should direct them to administration anyway. The minute they start a discussion questioning something about Mylot, they not only get correct info but a ton of incorrect info along with it.

hi sid thanks you give me some encouragement as a lot of mylotters told me I was not being helpful to newxomers as i just told them to read the guidelines., if they had read them they would see thats a lot of information to type out by hand and most modern people do not like long discussions. also my right hand is going out on me so am not typing more than I have to.I would love to be able to put all that info on a discussion for newcomers to read but am physically unable to do it.

You seemed to get so annoyed by the discussion on why some answers are deleted. You have even posted a comment on a discussion I started along that thread. I asked the question specifically for assistance from some experts in the site in order to clarify what was stated in the guidelines. Should I have known that the discussion I posted will earn your ire than I would just have kept my silence. It makes me all the more sad that experts instead of giving some guidance to us newbies would be so offended by the discussion. I have had responses that were deleted due to the question it was under which I thought did not violate any of the guidelines and I only intended to get some clarification. However, I don't intend to make the same mistake again in the future since I am now starting to learn my way around this site.

I am not angry or annoyed, more like puzzled as I must be a nerd if you all think the guidelines do not need to be read. You did not earn my ire, but I have responded to a ton of discussions so if you wou d enlighten me since you are accusing me of not being helpful it would help me to understand why you are upset with me. Maybe it helps to post a response "this post will be deleted because it violates the guidelines" if you feel that a certain discussion violates the guidelines. I know "owlings", if I'm not mistaken, do that sometimes so some mylotters like me would know not to respond, or would know which type is a violation. But again, it helps more to read the guidelines.
