Have you ever experienced an earthquake? Were you in panic? Well, don't ask me because I was really in panic when I felt the shaking on the 7th floor! I was having a class when I realized that the building was moving. I then shouted earthquake and began to run down the stairs! My ankle had been twisted twice and as a result I am suffering from slight pain now. Who wouldn't run in that situation? I mean, that was my first time to experience such a strong shake in my whole life and to think I was on the seventh floor! Cebu has been safe from serious calamities not until last Monday. Cebuanos were in panic as well and did not know what to do it was because we have never ever experienced that 6.9 magnitude for the past years! Thank God, nobody died and no buildings collapsed.
Our patron saved us from the disaster but in other places it was horrible. I couldn't imagine if that happened here. I was extremely nervous and paranoid. Even after the main shock, we still felt tons of aftershocks. Oh, God. I could not concentrate working due to that trauma.
Help me God to recover from this fear. I feel so sorry for my brothers and sisters who lost their lives.
I think it is only our faith that keeps us stronger and braver.
Thanks for reading!

Hi tess!
Your position and state of mind is understandable. It would have been really very scary to feel the tremors and to save yourself.
Hope you would have overcome that panic situation by now. However, it is for sure that you are not going to forget this incidence easily.
It is good to hear that you are safe and sound.
I have not head any such experience.

Thank you for all of you! I can't afford not to worry about our situation. Last time, it rained very hard and I couldn't stop thinking of my brothers and sisters in affected areas. It bothered me a lot. Probably, the fear is still eating me. But today, I feel better now because I have decided to let go of the fear and go on with life. If it will shake, it will. I just have to enjoy my life and spend quality time with my family.

I live in a country that has many earthquakes so I understand perfectly well how you feel. In fact, I got access to your post because I was writing about an earthquake over 7 Richter we had yesterday. The best we can do is to try to build the houses as earthquake proof as we can..

Hi and happy day to all!
Earthquake seems to be the toughest way to make our heart's beat faster while making our adrenaline so active that we can run the fastest we can, jump the higher we can, carry any loads the heavier we can and so and so. But there is number rule when things in earth gets like this. " Dont panic".
Well, its easy to say but its hard to do and thats right. But i already experienced a tremendous earthquake long time ago that i know how it felt. But one time i was in 9th floor, the building is shaking. I was with my mother, and she was a bit nervous and employees in the office are also murmuring and afraid. I told myself " Dont panic", i tried to sit next to my mom and told her its going to be ok. We transfer sitting next to the door, and i really aim the one who is closer to the stairs in case the earthquake gets powerful i will just take my mom out of the building. But happily, no worst quakes after that. Things back to normal, employees back to work. The 6.9 magnitude will be a good idea to evacuate from the building though and just go to open space. Luckily, you survived and your still in mylot.
Enjoy your day.

In 2002 we had a MAJOR earthquake here in Paso Robles California. I live about a mile from the epicenter of that quake. I was sitting in a chair and got thrown across the room with the chair on top of me-I landed on my front, formed like I was still sitting in the chair. I looked up in time to see the television coming out of the cabinet that it was in and it was headed for my arm. I struggled to move my arm because of the vibrations from the quake. I managed to get my arm out of the way and was fascinated to see the floor rise up and literally catch the TV. I was really fortunate that I wasn't injured and I didn't have any severe damage to the house.
Normally, I would have headed to a doorway. The theory is great, but in practice it's a bit tough because the earth is moving and you can't really walk. Running down the stairs isn't really a good idea as the stairs are the least structurally sound of any part of the building. You need to be under a desk, table or other piece of furniture that will protect you from falling debris.
I am grateful that you and none of the people in your area were injured seriously.
You shouldn't be in store for another strong earthquake for awhile. You are on the Pacific "rim of fire" for earthquakes. If I figure right it will start either for Japan or towards Hawaii. Then it comes to the United States and will hit Alaska, Washington state, Oregon, or California. If you look at an earthquake as Mother Earth shifting her bones and muscles (like we do after sitting for awhile) it makes the quakes easier. The area I live in has constant quakes. If we don't have them for awhile I begin to worry because we are in for a larger one soon. Come to think of it we are about due for another rather large quake soon as we haven't had many small quakes lately.
On the 7th floor, the sensation will be magnified about 20 times larger than the actual quake as the building will sway from the earth quake. It's like swinging a jump rope. The end in your hand doesn't move much but as it goes further along the rope the more motion there is.
You'll have smaller after shocks, but nothing like the first earthquake. My prayers are with you.

I do,I know the feeling.
I have same experience two decades ago when Baguio was stricken with much stronger earthquake.
You could just imagine what happened before.
That was one of the worst nightmare ever happened in my life.

I hope you and your family are okay. I remember that when I was about 10 or 11, a very strong earthquake hit Luzon and we were among the areas that were worst hit. And, the more traumatic thing was the series of aftershocks that followed! It was so scary feeling the earth move beneath your feet. It's been a very long time now, but, until now, I tremble at the slightest movement of the ground (yes, even very weak earthquakes or tremblings that have nothing to do with earthquake like when a very big truck passes by and the building you are on shakes).

If I'm in your situation, I'm surely go on panic too! Whoa! I'm in the 7th floor, and I knew stories of collapsed buildings due to strong earthquake that harmed many people!
Glad, you're okay tess. I hope and pray that our fellow countrymen that affected by this disaster will go on and can still live their lives as normal as it was before *sigh!
Cheers!

Hii tess_quinain...
I am sorry to hear that, I am glad that you are okay and just your ankle that was hurt, no other serious illnessess. Hope your ankle will recover soon.
The eartquake will make me nervous too if I am in a high building, it is hard for us to run away or get out of the building. Hope there will be no earthquake again
