Japan

Hello there mylotters! I understand that some of newbies here don't even bother to read mylot discussion and they just jump on the loop responding dscussions and all that. I read this one respond on the discussion I was responding too and although I am not the discussion starter I felt bad because I know that I am not good in english but I am trying to be since I am married to an american and english is the language spoken all the time. Come on now, mylot is a site where everyone in the world are welcome I assume that lot of member here that english is not their first langauge! I don't mind being corrected of my wrong grammar and I am thankful for those who are correcting me and teaching me, but throwing words that can be offended seems not right at all specially when it's wide written on the discussion guidelines! Have a nice day all!

My English is not my first language too. I am trying to write English here on this site even I know its not perfect. I do not know if my written English is perfect or not. Even if someone tells me that my English is a crap, I still write as long as they understand it. Besides I am not the only one criticizes by the native English speaker, they are many people who are like me. I am not alone – he he he he he Nobody’s perfect.

English is not my first language too. But, I'm trying my best to excel in this language because I need it for the advancement of my career. You may not have an excellent English Skills, but what matters most is that you are willing to be corrected and you do accept your mistake. Just ignore those people who throws word at you. They are not good enough for your attention.

It gives you a taste of several different countries while you're just sitting at the desk at home! I don't think people should be offended by you not knowing how to speak English 100%. Also, by the way, your English sounds pretty good to me! :)

But I am glad that mylot doesn't mind with it, so the lotters should not mind too. I am glad if someone corrects my grammar or spelling, I like it cz it means they care about me and I can realize my mistakes.

Yes dear, my first language is not English, but my husband is. I can speak french, since birth. Although I heard our neighbor that spoke it often so I was familiar with the accent. Well yes there is some discussion that are offending because of lack of respect toward their neighbors sadly.

As a native English speaker I take no offence at poor English, when used by those learning. I do, however, think that native speakers should take care to use good English, that they may serve exactly as an example for those learners. May I suggest a number of improvements you may like to consider? ‘English’ and ‘American’ should be capitalised. Please use 'especially' where you have used 'specially?' Refrain from inserting a comma prior to a conjunction, where that conjunction is used to link clauses within a sentence, as you have done between 'me' and 'but.' The final clause of your penultimate sentence would read better were it altered to something like, ‘...but using words that are likely to cause offence, especially when these contravene discussion guidelines, is wrong.’ All the best urban.

Hi, i think there are so many people are not from english speaking countries. But it doesn't influence our communication here. Anyway, it is article writing sites that don't permit grammatical errors. Therefore, even there are some mistakes, i think we can understand each other, sometimes with a little difficult. You said you are married to an american, then i think it is a great atmosphere for your to improve your english, you know, language need environment, that is to say, if there is nice environment, even a small kid can grasp it in a few years, well, maybe it is hard at the beginning, but i think after being with him for one year, your english will be perfect.

Yes I am married to an american and I am confident with my self that I can speak, understand and write in english now and it helps me a lot I had grasp those environment already but what I'm talking about is mylot is not an article writing site that english needs to be correct and no error and maybe some members should be aware that mylot is not for english people only. I mean don't criticize of say something offensive to the discussion starter or resposes to correct their english. It is clearly written here on mylot discussion guidelines Post discussions, responses or comments criticizing members for bad/broken English or bad spelling. Everyone is welcome at myLot, we have users from all around the world and they are welcome regardless of their proficiency with the English Language.

Poor english is very common in discussions, responses and comments. I myself do not take them into consideration but sometimes they just make it difficult to understand. I also never correct anyone or mock them of their poor english as they like you, may have been trying their best to communicate here. I do my best to understand the points they are bringing up and respond or comment on that but if it is too much of a pain in the but then I would not bother to read. There are times though wherein it really hurts my eyes reading extremely poor english

You're right poor english is very common here but to reply a discussion saying something about your poor english seems not right since it is written on mylot guideline discussion. I also agreed with you it is sometimes pain in the a** to read and understand english, but there are just some people trying to be mean saying "correct your english" not totally right.

you know what English is my first language and there are so many times that i don't spell the words correctly or sometime i would forget a couple of words in my sentences and people would not know what i am talking about. but nobody perfect don't let that get you down. and it seems to me that you write perfect English.and there are some times when people write to me and they spelled a lot of words wrong but i don't get mad.

You can tell when someone is learning English here, but as you said, it's not right to insult. At least they are trying; and if we don't feel like correcting them nicely, then just ignore it. Btw, your English is better than some of us who speak it all our lives.

Hi thelmadacullo, You're right English is the international language that make us communicate well from various countries in the world. Proficiency is not that important if your not a English language native speaker as long as you can understand and speak I think that should be good enough

Hi kyle I don't know how long you have been on Mylot but your written English is very good. It's not an easy language with so many words meaning different things but spelt the same. The differences between American and UK English spellings and names for things. I think that this is, in general, a good place to help people whose first language is not English but they would have to be very good to participate well. On the question of criticism it is not good to be rude to those that are obviously struggling, there are doing more than those whose first language is English.

Did you see that last sentence trying so hard to get it right and still I fail. Should have read :- they are doing more than those whose first language is English. Just one word different and it becomes senseless.

Hi and a happy day to all! Simply put, english is not the first language for some but its a universal language so there's always a good advantage if you know english. There is a lot of people joining mylot and i think there are doing their best to improve their english skills. This is not a site to humiliate people that has fault in their grammar, instead its a good site to motivate people to enhance english skills, express their opinions and share their views. Enjoy your day!
