yeah, I joined o-desk and freelancer site. You can earn there really, but it depends on your category of work.

As I have known, odesk is somewhat a freelancing website. Employers post their jobs, and job-seekers will have to post their skills. When employers see that the skills you posted meet their requirements, then they will hire you. Odesk will then notify you of the job-offer and its up to you to accept it; then an interview(either through skype, ym, phone etc. ) will follow.

It is nothing but another free lancer site. The jobs are obtained competing with others. Try your luck.

it's a freelancing site where clients offer jobs to people registered on its site.
you must have a special skill to do the projects those clients are giving.
but you have to indicate what is your field of work or what you are good at so the odesk will know what type of job they will refer to you.
and when you receive invitation to bid for work,
you have to choose which job you'll be willing to work on, and then bid for it.
the right way of bidding for the work is replying to the work invitation you received with the specific schedule of when the work available for you will be finished.
clients wants fast results on the job they are giving.
you have to indicate you rate.
there are some clients who are stingy, and some aren't.
it'll be a good help if you attach some sample work that you have done before so clients will know your proficiency level.
then after that, he'll evaluate your proposal.
and if the client was impressed with it, he will contact you so you can start working on the project right away.
i get a lot of jobs thru freelancing sites.
i have odesk, peopleperhour, and guru.com accounts.
with that, i never run out of projects to work on.
but of course...
you still have to be so competitive or pro enough to get noticed with so many other freelancers bidding for the projects.
i'm an art director, and i worked hard building my portfolio and resume, that's why clients are the one who's contacting me for work. i don't even have to make a proposal anymore.
