Hi guys,
I have recently been offered a few leadership positions, and I am very happy for that. I am someone that wants to be in a position of leadership at school, and I really want people to follow what I say, and I want people to listen to me.
(As I was growing up when I was younger I was kind of a reject and people never listened to me... they only elected me because I was academically good but I had no leadership skills).
Either way, now in high school, I am chosen as a prefect, but I often feel like I don't deserve the position. I feel like I shouldn't be there and there are people with more leadership qualities than me that should have had the position.
I know that I have low self esteem, and I think it is because of my accent. I really want to change that (not the accent - I think its hopeless now, but I want to change the way I see myself).
I am now given a chance to rap at assembly on tuesday but at home I can practise good, but in front of other prefects it seems like I am never good enough to be in that position and someone else should be the one that is offered the chance to rap (even though its like only a few lines of rapping).
Deep down I want to be a leader and I want to learn how to get other people to listen to me, because often I have very good ideas, but not only do I see myself as not worthy enough to be one I also don't know how to get others to listen to my views. I also feel scared to make decisions sometimes because I know that people will often reject them and just ignore me.
If you were one of the 'popular' people in high school or people with experience in leading please give some personal tips - not the ones on wikihow but the way you manage your feelings and people.

hmm....for me, hard to explained about this. i think you can found any tips about leadership. and remember, it not make you more popular, but give you more responsibility, but don't be scare, be confidence. don't to over act.. do it like your ordinary day.

I don't know, some people manage to do it without sounding bossy. On the internet they have things like, have vision, make decisions, etc, but in a high school its all about popularity and people with leadership does not need vision or whatever, but they are capable of making decisions that everyone will listen to without sounding mean and everyone respects them.
And they're not good in sport or anything like that. :( As a prefect I already have a lot of responsibility, but people dont listen to me.

The first thing you need to do is get over your self esteem issue. You think you were picked simply for your intelligence, but maybe they see more in you. Even if you were picked for being smart, your smarts are a great asset to the people around you. In life there will be people who love your views and ideas and people who disagree no matter how great they are. All you can do is share your ideas and show them the positive aspects and benefits of what you have to offer.

Thanks, I'll try and see what I can offer. I don't know though. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't be holding the position in the first place... like it should have been given to someone better.
