This is the first time that my daughter has been sick other than a cold. She is three years old, so that is a pretty good streak of not getting sick. What do all of you parents out there do to help settle your child's stomach?

My Mom used to give me 7up or ginger ale and ice cream. Just a little bit of each. Finding real ginger ale is a challenge these days. Hope she feels better soon.

This problem also happened to my son last Friday. It was my first time to see him with stomach upsets. I just let him rest and on Saturday he was fine. He was also vomiting after eating so I made sure I had oral rehydrates ready with me to give him whenever he vomitted.

An upset stomach can come from a lot of things and before you treat it, you must find out what caused it. Dyspepsia, flu, motion sickness, heartburn and food poisoning can all source nausea and the medication vary depending on what caused the stomach to get upset. Because three years old is so little, try to avoid medicine. Give your child a lot of clear fluids. The best is clear soda, such as 7-up, and lots of water.

Ginger is good for upset tummies. Preferably root ginger which you can grate into hot water, but being so young she may not like that so much! Ginger snaps are a good alternative for children.
Lots of water to drink will help get whatever it is out of her system, and plain yoghurt is good as it has the 'good bacteria' and will settle her stomach.
My parents used to dissolve sugar crystals in hot water which always worked for us, whether it was the placebo effect or not though I don't know!
If she's actually vomiting, make sure she sips water and doesn't fill her stomach too much and keep her on plain foods when she can keep things down.
I hope that she feels better, it's horrible seeing a child ill!
