So I started a quilt for my grand daughter of Strawberry Shortcake theme. I got alot cut out and assembled, then realized I needed something in the center...I had done it backwards...you either start from the center and work out or do it in rows all the way up. When I realized dthis, I thought, no prob...just get a SS panel or something like that for hte center and then the stuff I have I can build it outward. Searched fo 10 days for something...online, stores etc...and couldn't find anything that would work for the center. I didn't knw what I was going to do. Today I was yard saling and the person was folding bunch of sheets and putting them out and she said "these are sheets and curtains if you are interested". I said, "no, but do you have any fabric?" She said...yes she did, she just hadn't gotten it out yet. SO she goes into the garage and brings out this box...and lo and behold..right there on top is SS fabric!!! I grabbed it and started to say "oh, I have been looking all over for this SS fabric...." etc, but stopped myself...I can't let them know how desperate I have been for it or they will raise the price on me!!! So I just backed off and said I did all my daughters room in it years ago (33 years and I really did!) And then started looking through the rest of the box...expecting fabric. But it was just more curtains...but that SS fabric was a yards length! I was so jazzed! I knew the good Lord answered my prayers! I mean come on...what are the odds? So I then bought a set of night stands with drawers for storing some things in the garage and went to pay the lady and said the stands are $15...how much for the fabric? She said "Oh, just take it...no charge". I thought again...Lord was blessing me...again...what are the odds? SO come monday I get started again on the quilt and can probably have it done by end of the week! A quilt blessed by God and with a story behind it and memories to go with it! My next venture...a quilt... with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse...again...having a hard time finding the right fabric for a quilt!

Ah..... have you tried signing your quilts? Some people sign them with the story behind the quilt. If you've never done it, let me know, I'll tell you how to do it. Happy to hear you found the fabric. I know how it is to do something and then come up short on fabric. That is quite a story and would be worth keeping it with the quilt. A few years ago, I bought fabric pens from a quilt store, and make a label for the the signature on the quilt.... with the name of the person I'm giving it to, the date of completion, and any story behind it. Many years from now, it helps to date the quilt for your family and keeps the heirloom memorable. Thanks for the discussion!

Cool, everyone should have their own unique signature I think. I doubt it matters whether it is on the front or back, unless you are in some competition. Some of them have specific requirements about sleeves and signatures. I did a piece of white fabric and used the permanent fabric ink pens to do a design I found in a booklet for signature designs. Then I did all the info. I sewed the piece on the back of the quilt because it was an applique and the block would interfere with the design. It is just very special when the quilt is made by a family member for a family member.

I'd like to hear your version of signing quilts. What I did on the 2 t-shirt quilts I made for the GD's...I made a block of my signature. I typed it and printed it out on iron on transfer paper then ironed it onto the block and then to the quilt. I used a song I used to sing to each of them (that they still sing today!) and things that meant something to them.. one I printed a pic of a Orca whale as that is her most fav animal ever, and the other I appliqued dolphins and CareBears on hers. Then the words to the song and my name. I think I will do that on all...why should I put it on the back where they can't see that memory?!!

I was offered on Freecycle some fabric - when I picked it up and went through it, there were all these hexagonal pieces, some even sewn together! And then there were 4 squares of diagonal quilted pieces... just need to figure out how to sew these things together, cut more strips for more squares and I could do a hex on one side and diagonal on the other side quilt!

I hadn't thought about FreeCycle..but will check that out! One thing you might do (without seeing what you are talkin gabout) just get enough of whats already sewn together to make the center of the quilt...and then just add borders and a binding all around.

Nice story. God really works in mysterious way sometimes. It's good that you're able to see how he works in simple ways and also appreciate those small things. God really helps us when we call onto him. May you and your family be more bless! :)

That is wonderful. It is always nice when things work out perfectly that way. It certainly does seem like a blessing or like someone is watching over us and giving a favor and trying to make our day bright and happy. I am very happy to hear you got your blessing and you were able to get exactly what you are looking for and that the lady didn't charge you for them.

That is so so cool! It's great when God drops unexpected blessings on us. Sometimes we are looking so hard for the big things we forget to pick up on the little things. And Strawberry Shortcake rocks!

"ask and thou shall receive" I am not sure that was meant for fabric but it seems to have worked for you here! You'll have to post some pictures of the quilt when done. I love to see what others have created!

Nearly done....just doing the final edge borders, then have to quilt it and bind it. Another week maybe. Turning out bigger than I planned, but that's okay...the GD it is for is 1 year old so she has plenty of "growing room"!!!

I was ready to give up! Good grief, all I wanted was a little panel of Strawberry Shortcake! How hard is that to find!! Really hard, I found out! I will post picture of it when I finish it.
