Software engineer.

My son wants to be a software engineer.he has completed his G.C.E. o/level
exams and he is waiting for his results.in the meantime he has decided to follow a course(Diploma in programming) in a vocational training center before going for the dergree after G.C.E A/levels.Is there anything that he has missed and/or is there anything that he needs to do other than this to become successful?

practical experience in the field , field work is very much different from theory . so he should get some experience in the field
