Oh No! It's Raining...

Since yesterday it has been raining and I know that there is a low pressure area in the Visayas region. But that is the Visayas and I am in Luzon. But I am a little concerned with the rain and I hope that the rain doesn't continue up to the weekend. This is the weekend where I am due for Sagada and I know that when it is rainy, there will be mists in the mountains and I will never get to see the rice terraces!
I've had experiences also trekking in slippery mud because it had rained the night before. What I would do then is just discard my shoes because there was no way I could get a strong foothold in the slippery mud and I climbed upwards. I don't know what the trails are like in Sagada but I am really praying that the rain lets out and it will be sunny this weekend.
Are there mylotters here who have gone to Sagada? Was it raining or sunny when you got there? What were the trails like? Thank you in advance for your response.

The farthest i have been north of the Philippines is the Strawberry farm of Banaue and it is such a lovely place with all those delicious strawberries, vegetables, flowers...
In the past, i used to love it when it is raining... but ever since Ondoy occurred and all the other destructive typhoons after that... i am now always worried when it is raining... and i start thinking of all those people who will be affected if the rains do not stop...
Be careful when you are in Sagada... and just enjoy yourself...

After Sagada we will spend a day or two in Baguio. Hopefully I can convince my friends to make a side trip to Bontoc for the Strawberry farms. I bought strawberries this weekend at a supermarket and they were sour. Thank you for your response.

I know how to get around Baguio since I am a frequent visitor of the place since 2005. I was a little disappointed with Tam-awan because first, there is an entrance fee of P50 and there wasn't much to see. It's good that there is a local known artist who lives and holds his gallery across from tam-awan. I might get to La Trinidad this time because I have friends with me. I usually travel Baguio alone, so exploring places such as the strawberry farm wasn't that ideal for me. We also have a house in Baguio which makes staying there less expensive.

Try to go to La Trinidad, Benguet which is just a few minutes from Baguio. They have the juiciest strawberries with the choice whether to pick them by yourselves or have the farmers do it for you. You can also try the rose farms. The cheapest and easiest route to La Trinidad is through the public jeeps with terminals along the vicinity of the Baguio Public Market. There is also a tourist spot which is not so well known but lacks the commerce of the other parks. This is the Tam-awan Park which is also accessible through public transport near the Baguio City Public Market. Afterwards, you can proceed to the Asin Hot Springs where you get the thrill of a hot spring in the midst of mountains. These places are easily accessible from Baguio so your two day stay will be more memorable.

I haven't been to Sagada but I've heard that it's really a good place. I;m from the Visayas region and it's really been raining this past few days. I just hope it wouldn't get worse or something. I didn't know that the Luzon area is also affected by the rain. I really hope that it won't rain when you get there so that you will be able to fully enjoy.
Have a safe and fun trip! :))

Be safe also horohoro and I hope you weren't affected by the earthquake. I know that in our country the rain usually stops by mid February so I am hoping and praying that it does by the end of the week. Thank you for your response.

Thanks. We weren't really affected though people here went on panic, fearing that there will be a tsunami -.-" but everything's back to normal now. Just think positive that it won't rain this weekend. Today is sunnier compared to yesterday :)

Hi anne25penn!
I am from Luzon and I am not happy about the weather for the past two days. It is raining and I do not know why it is raining here at this time of the year.
I have been to Sagada. It is a very beautiful place. I have been there a couple of times. It is coldest in Sagada during the months of November to February and as such has become a favorite summer destination. Sagada is really one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines if you want to commune with nature. You have the mountains all around you. The clean and cold air to breathe... HEAVEN!
Of course, the best time to visit Sagada is during summer but if you wish to experience how cold it is there, your schedule is just but fine.

My friends and I made our last minute plans for our trip tomorrow. We were looking at pictures taken by those who were able to visit the place and the pictures, even for those using non-professional cameras were a sight indeed. And since I've read that the signal strength of most cell phones there are weak, I will just bring my Sony Ericsson phone because it takes great pictures. I don't like to bring much for the trip especially that we are planning to conquer Batad. Thank you for your response!

We experienced the same thing. It's also raining in our place. I think for 2 days already. Though it's not that heavy. I just hope it won't last for too long. We just experienced a strong typhoon lately. Many people lost their love ones including their houses.
Good luck to your activity there.

haven't been to Sagada. i'm dying to visit the place someday.
it is worrisome having these rains and they're not yet storms by LPAs only. how much more would it cause if they're storms and hurricanes? i pray that it will stop soon and not get worse.
the world is a-changing, gives me the creeps.

Exactly the reason why we want to go there before Sagada or the rice terraces become just a postcard picture because it is already destroyed. I know that a lot of the terraces are destroyed and the current generation cannot rebuild them because they don't know how or they are no longer interested. I find it sad and tragic that a lot of Ifugaos refuse to till the land that they inherited because it has become too hard. Their ancestors tilled these lands religiously because if they didn't, the tribe would starve. The old Ifugaos designed the terraces an effective way of irrigating the land. Now with the influx of tourists, a lot of Ifugaos venture into becoming tourist guides because it is easy money and some have even moved away from the place.

I have not been to Sagada before but I've wanting to go there. I remember I even planned on availing a promo, Sagada tour for 3 thou, for my anniversary. Due to some reasons, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate on a much nearer place and put the Sagada tour on a later schedule.

My friends and I have a lot of trips planned for this year, and Sagada is one of them. We have a bucket list of places that we would like to see before our knees give out and we can no longer enjoy going to places like Sagada because we cannot survive the trek due to old age. Thank you for your response.

It seems to me that it rains everywhere in the world. Last night it was pissing down. I was worried, this windy heavy rain would cause heavy flood in the low-lying areas.

I haven't been to Sagada too but I heard it's a nice place to go.I am from Luzon too preferably Central Luzon and it's been raining here too since last night.I hope the rain will stop so that you can go on with your trip to Sagada.Well if the rain wont stop I suggest you cancel your trip for sagada if possible and it's for your safety too.Roads can be slippery going there and I think it would be a little scary if you travel in a pouring rain.Do you happen to have your own transportation going to Sagada?Or did you acquire a travel tour for that?If you happen to book for a travel tour going to Sagada, I guess it's best to call the travel agency and ask for any alternate tours if ever your trip to Sagada will not push through and I hope that it will push through because I know that you are excited for the trip.Just to make things sure and concise i guess it is best to let your travel agency/agent know the wheather in sagada too so that you can do the additional preparations right? Goodluck and have a safe trip!!

We don't have a travel agent since my friends and I are the adventurous kind and we have been trekking for a few years now. We are not professional trekkers, but we do go to places where the skill level is just for beginners and Sagada is supposedly our jump to another skill level. I will cry if the trip gets cancelled because I have been looking forward to this since January. Thank you for your response.

Hi anne,
Way down South, it is still relatively warm and dry except for a few rainshowers in the night. Strange to say this given the current situation in our weather system. Maybe our town is shielded by high mountains preventing big rainclouds to fall. Unless it is a big one, we don't get much rain here nowadays. It is still perfect weather for planting though.

I know that usually around these months, most farmers do their sowing and planting. It's nice to know that you are experiencing sunny weather there. Thank you for your response.

Sagada is a nice little town and you don't have to worry a lot. It is raining in Baguio so you should also expect some rain in Sagada. When you go to the caves, that is where you need to use a great amount of caution. It would be quite difficult but then it is an adventure. I am sorry but you won't be seeing the Rice Terraces in Sagada since it still father away. The route to the Rice Terraces is easier if you go through Nueva Viscaya than if you travel to Baguio and proceed to Banaue. Before I forget, water is quite expensive in Sagada, be sure to bring along some spare bottled water. They will charge you a few bucks for taking a bath. I am not sure though how much they charge now for a shower. Regarding the road trip, don't worry because the drivers are highly experienced in those kinds of roads and they are about the most courteous drivers in the country. Oh I really miss the fog and the mist and the smell of pine trees. Be sure to bring 2 pairs of rubber shoes so that if one gets stuck in the mud, you won't feel so uncomfortable. Happy trip and hope you enjoy the adventure. Be safe.

Hello Yahnee. Thanks for the advise to bring an extra pair of rubber shoes. I was planning on just bringing one pair because I like to travel light but it seems that I cannot escape a bulky bag this time. Thank you for your response.

It's been raining alot lately and it'a cold outside too!
I like the cold weather but I hate the rain.
The cold makes me feel relaxed but the rain is depressing.
Well, it's better than a hot day. :)

I never realized how cold it was outside today until I went out to buy something from the sari-sari store. The rain wasn't that strong, but the wind made it feel like ice against my feet. Thank you for your response.
