What size of aquarium do you plan on having your fish in? Goldfish need at least 20 gallos per fish to lstay healthy and grow to their maximum size (for th efancy ones and over 100 gallons fo rthe single tailed ones. You could have a five gallon aquarium and have a male betta or a couple of female bettas but not both a male and female in the same small tank together. If you go with larger tank size like a 20 gallon high tank, then ou could have a pair of angelfish.

I agree with oscarbartoni, goldfish need quite a bit of space. Bowls are too small and cruel and the fish often die as a result of this. A reasonably sized tank with a small internal filter and plenty of research are a great recipe for a happy, healthy fish and a happy owner. Many are under the impression that goldfish are a disposable pet, but they can live up to 40 years, so bear that in mind.

It might seem like over kill but I would not start with anything less than a 100 gallon aquarium for 9 goldfish, to give them a little over 10 gallons of water per fish and that is if they are of the double tailed variety. If they are of the wild or single tailed type the tank (pond woud be better) should be many times that size. Also since they are a messy fish you will need to do weekly 15% to 25% water changes with clean dechlorinated water that is the same temp and pH. This will help their health and to be able to grow to the more maximum size. The reason that I would not start with anything smaller is that all too often people say that they will upgrade when the time comes and people forget to upgrade when the time is proper and the fish suffer. It is not unusuall for goldfish to live for over 30 years so why not give the best from the beginning. Also make sure to not overfeed and to make sre to give good grade fish foods for proper health? The water that you take out during a water change can be used for watering your garden, house plants etc. It does not have to go down the drain. You could also use it to wash your car or other outdoor things.

If it's your first fish or the first time you're going to be the sole person responsible for the pet I would recommend a goldfish. They're the hardest breed of fish to kill through neglect. Neglect being things like over feeding, under feed, not cleaning out the water fast enough, and so on.

Do you know what size of aquarium that yo will be getting? If yo let us know that, then we can help you better. If 1 gallons or less then shrimp such as cherry shrimp and some "nano" fish such as celestial danios would be good, just make sure to have plenty of plants in there such as Java moss.

I suggest you to have the tropical fish such as guppy. I really like raising the guppies. Since they are not expensive. They are small and it is easy to handle them. Especially it is quite easy for them to have guppy babies. You will be excited since soon you will have many guppies at home. I love China

If you are new to the hobby of fish raising or breeding, I would suggest guppies because they are best suited for the climate in our country, they are commonly referred to as " isdang canal" or canal fish because local guppy is found everywhere in the Philippines. Buy the larger and more colorful hybrids that were developed in other countries like the German, cobra etc... they are just as hardy as the local version but more beautiful ( males are more colorful), they would eat almost anything, they are also live bearers, meaning they have live babies instead to eggs so they are easy to breed and propagate, good luck
