I live in an apartment complex and I am wanting to grown my own herb garden. I am looking into getting the one that chia pet does and trying it.My family likes fresh spices a lot more than the ones you buy in the store.
Has anyone else grown their own? I really could use some help with this.

If the children are old enough, you could put them "in charge" of the plants. Also you could have them grow some in plain water and others in water from an aquarium (freshwater) and watch which plants grow best. They might even write something about it for a school project.

Never thought of doing that I know my kids would like to do it especially my daughter. And the idea of writing a report on it for school sounds like a good idea.

Most herbs like a lot of sun. Do you have a patio, or could you run grow lights? I think it would be fun,and your kids would learn stuff too.

Yeah we have a patio. My in laws grew some before and used florescent lighting to help in the process of growing them. Yeah I agree I think my kids would really enjoy helping with this.

I have oregano, chives and rosemary as perennials. I also plant coriander, parsil and thyme as year plants. In fact, I plant coriander several times a year, as they donĀ“t do well after cutting. You might save some for their seeds though. All are grown in pots. I even grow sweet pepper and hot pepper in pots but they must be bigger.

I would suggest that you start growing the herbs indoor so they can sprout and grow strong roots, then transfer that to large plant pots. Herbs don't mind direct sunlight and the kids will enjoy watering them. Have fun!
