http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/childs-lunch-allegedly-taken-by-teacher-told-it-wasnt-healthy-enough I just saw this on the news this morning, and I am so glad this wasn't my child because I would have went balllistic. The child didn't have a lot of junk either. Reports say her grandmother packed her a Turkey Sandwich, banana, chips, and apple juice..... They took her lunch and replaced it with the processed mess they serve every day....of which the child only picked at. Where do these teachers get the nerve to do something like this? Parents, what would you have done if your child came home and told you this?

It was chicken nuggets. The article states that the teacher did that because she didn't have all the food groups in her lunch and they deemed it unhealthy....I counted all four food groups in her lunch being replaced by half of a food group (think of all the processing that chicken goes through to become a nugget) Makes me upset to think about it, and I'm just so glad it wasn't my child because it would have become very ugly.

Hi drknkvly: I can belive this could be serious. They have no reason to do this and I think actually that the boys grandma has chosen a good meal for the boy. Better than the one that the school is offering. I would discuss with them because they are not right and they shouldn't decide for me what my child should take when I am doing things right. ALVARO

My kids are my number one priority. I will stick up for them no matter what. I am a mother bear when it comes to my cubs. My kids are no longer in elementary school but in the past I did contact the principal about issues I was not happy with where my daughter was concerned. If this had happened to my daughter I would have contacted the principal and then, if need be, the school board. This is totally unacceptable. Teachers are always complaining about how parents expect the schools to teach them everything where parents need to be responsible in teaching their children as well. When it comes to a lunch the teacher has no right to take away the lunch, especially a lunch that only had one item that could be considered unhealthy (the chips). And what of the child who comes from a poor home? The child who can only bring whatever they can find in the cupboards because money is tight? This teacher is playing judge and jury. The only reason a teacher has the right to take away a child's lunch is if it contains something that has been deemed unsafe to be brought into the school (ie peanuts). If a parent wants to treat a child with a snack, the teacher has no right to judge that. I am appalled at this behaviour.

if it were my child, they'd better provide explanation why grain and meat are not healthier than chicken nuggets. and they'd have to return the money for those nuggets LOL if the child needed milk well then why did they give her chicken nuggets instead?

Oh good grief. I dont see how replacing a turkey sandwich with deep friend chicken nuggests is healthy. If the mean was missing something then they could have offered it to her rather than taking away what was already given to her. Noticed the article says that the school even sent a BILL HOME for the food they replaced her lunch with... I'd be pretty upset myself...And the comment that the meal was missing milk. What about children that are lactose intolerant...or have allergies. Does the AGent not take that sort of thing into consideration that the PARENT KNOWS what a child can or cant eat???

Wow!! Personally I think overall this parent had a reason to be quite upset. For real now. Taking something considered HEALTHY and replacing it? What is wrong with that food? The teacher wanted it themselves? To me this is unreal, just like some of the reports where teachers are judging others and saying they need to eat what the others eat, even with Doctor's note. Personally this invasion of home life, and doing things like this is going a little too far.
