An English man from Liverpool called Graham Hughes. He began his journey in January 2009 and he does not allow himself to fly. He uses ground and sea transport only. Amazingly he visited one hundred and thirty three countries in 2009 so got a Guinness Record for doing that. Right now he is in Australasia trying to visit the island nations in the South Pacific Ocean. He is on country number one hundred and ninety four and only has seven more countries to visit. He got arrested in the Cape Verde Islands when he came over on the boat of a fisherman. He had the same experience in Congo. He found the people in Iraq and Afghanistan friendly. He found travel through the African landscape slow.
What do you think of Graham Hughes trip?
If you traveled which countries would you worry about visiting?
How would you find getting loads of visas?

Oh my God!This man is extremely amazing and I love what he is doing!I dream to travel around the world too but the problem is, I have no money to start with, huhu! How can I travel without any budget?Graham Hughes must be a very rich man to afford his spending on travels and I envy him. Hope I can do that in the future.
My dream places to visit are the following:
1. England
2. Scotland
3. Italy
4. France
5. Switzerland
6. Germany
7. French Polynesia
8. Spain
9. Monaco
10. St. Barts in the Caribbean
11. Mustique Island
12. Bahamas
13. Greece
14. Seychelles
So many countries!hehehe, but I really want to travel someday...

That is so awesome! I would love to have the bravery and freedom to travel like that!
Imagine the things that you would learn and the amazing experiences that you would have. That is really inspirational and the best way to experience all of the wonder that this world has to offer.
I don't think that I would be quite adventurous enough to visit a lot of those "dangerous" countries, but I admire him for having the guts to get out there and see the real side of the countries that the media do not often portray.

I hadn't heard, or did not remember hearing, about him. It must be a daunting task trying to see all the countries, continents like Europe where countries are small and easy to travel to should have been easy and fun, now the more difficult countries appear. I will look this man up, it is incredible being able to do this.

I think that it must be an amazing experience to visit so many different countries, and it sounds really interesting to travel from country to country like he did.
I don't like the idea of getting lots of visas. I would need to lots of money to pay for those visas and I would also need lots of patience, because it takes time to apply for every single visa. In some countries it is possible to buy a visa at the border, but in many cases I would have to arrange my visa before I leave my own country. Some countries are complicated to visit, because I would need a letter of invitation as well as a visa.
Some countries like North Korea don't allow individual trips, so the only possibility would be a group tour. I would find it annoying to visit a country where I wasn't able to leave the hotel without the guide. I love to take pictures when I visit another country, but in North Korea there are lots of restrictions about photos, and there are many other restrictions as well. I would worry about the many restrictions if I visited North Korea.
I would also worry about visiting Somalia, Iraq and a couple of other countries, because I would have to think a lot about my safety and avoid certain parts of those countries. There are some countries that I would be able to visit if I stick to certain part of those countries and avoid another parts of the countries, so I would have to do a lot of reseach before I left in order to get the latest information.

If I am not mistaken, Graham Hughes's story appeared on our
Malaysia local newspaper too. Very interesting story indeed.
I think I'll be worried traveling to Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan
and Afghanistan since is is not a safe zone to travel as per
our local news update. However, it is really depends on the
situations and who we met, in every places in this world there
are nice people too :)

I find Graham Hughes to be an interesting person. He is really dedicated to travel the world. He do live a life that is full of colors and possibilities. For me he is in the process of knowing himself and making the world as a better place. If I travel, there would be no specific destination. It's because a true traveler never had a destination.

It isn't possible for an ordinary man to be such a great traveler. If he writes on his experiences, it would be a strange and great experience to thousands and a great contribution to literature.

Wow, that is a lot of experience for Graham Hughes! He certainly is living his life to the fullest! I wish I am as daredevil as he is, I could not even travel our own country alone! Call me scared cat!
If I were to travel to another country, I would surely love to visit Japan, Israel, Amsterdam, Scotland, New Zealand, Greece, etc.. I would be afraid to travel countries like Iraq, North Korea, Afganisthan, etc. Those countries where there are lots of violence being shown on the news. I would love to meet ordinary people from those countries nonetheless, and I would love to know what they think about the world too.

hi maximax, your discussion is pretty tough but very intresting,Graham Hughes is amazing he has travelled all ovev the world except those 7 countries as you mentioned,he is great and simply WOW.if i travelled then i would be bother more when am in african countries because of its forests and animals, tribes and i may not be sure that i may only worry about those countries because i donot know about the rest of the world, and regarding those visas its very difficult to manage all those visas and getting prior permission.how ever i may find solutions to get those visas work done as one by Mr.Graham Hughes,i wish he should finish visiting those remaining countries successfully, finally thanks for the intresting discussion maximax8 ,have a great day bye
