(I am not a student anymore, I am just being Nostalgic)
I remember during elementary , The food in the cafeteria in the elementary school where I studied, is just gross. The kitchen is next to the boy's bathroom and we know how unhygenic little boys are. I also remember how the lunch ladies looks sweaty and wears sleeveless tank tops. Even if I was just a kid then, I know it I cant trust eating those things. so during elementary i only eat the one in my lunchbox,.
In Highschool, The cafeteria on the academy is much better. They serve delicious and nutricious food too. But mostly they serve junk foods and oily fatty foods. I think i remember I am the only kid in my class that eats veggies. The one meal that I will never forget in my highschool cafeteria is stirfried turnip. In my country usually turnip is eaten raw. That is like my school's specialty. My highschool cafeteria is much more organized than the one I have during elementary.
(I didnt go to college, sadly but I have a high paying job)

I am from a public elementary school and I can say that our school canteen then is good. Foods are not that delicious but the environment is good. I don't usually eat lunch there but I like the merienda specially the ginataang mais or munggo. Aside from that I don't remember much in that canteen.
But there's one canteen outside the school that my classmates and I loves to visit because their food is really good but the place is not as good as the one inside the school since its along the road, its more like of a carinderia. hehe we just love their "suwam na mais" am I right with the term? I don't know. hehe and the tortang giniling! hehe
In high school? I don't usually go to canteen as well coz I just go home during lunch time.
College? hmmmm, I just don't have a choice but to eat the same foods again and again coz the canteen serves almost the same thing everyday! haha

haha, why? don't you like teens? when you are also a teen that time? who knows you might meet a nice sexy professor! hehe

I get along with teens if they were geeks and nerds, but you know most Pinoy kids are not geeks and nerds. They were noisy, annoying and imature. I can still pass as a teenager but I dont want to be in a school environment with them. I actually get along with my teenage subordinates at work but you know school is different from work.

LOL I am a lunch box boy in elementary ebcause of the gross canteen while I am a cafeteria boy during highschool, I might be a lunchbox guy by college if I decided to go in college but I have no plans to be in college. The thought of being surrounded by teens just gives me nightmares.

You were that maarte already back in grade school? I think it's normal to have a toilet near the kitchen and it's okay if it's a well-maintained toilet and people are disciplined, but if it's not, then something would probably go wrong with the food. Back in my elementary days, I never so much paid attention to those things. I mean, if the canteen is beside a toilet or if the canteen ladies had sweaty hands, unkempt hair or something. I ate junk foods most of the time then. All in plastics so I never weary if the hands who touched them are sweaty or dirty.
Back in high school it was different. I became more aware of hygiene especially because I eat foods other than junk foods in plastics. There were spaghetti, fruits, stir-fried noodles, burgers, breads, pizzas, many kinds of food that can directly come in contact with the skin of people. So it was necessary back then to be maarte. It was the same in college although in college, I usually eat lunch and not snacks at our cafeteria.

How can a canteen serve food like that? I won't be surprised if there were many malnourished children back in your elementary school.

Well Its the boy's toilet and you know how unhygenic little boys are, they pee on the floor. LOL I dont drink water before going to school to make sure I wont need to pee.The boy's toilet at my elementary is like abandoned by the janitors. I grow up in a family of chefs, so yeah I learned kitchen hygiene at a very young age.
The Menu of my elementary canteen is Miswa that looks like phlegm, Champorado that has more liquid than rice, some unknown soup that I dont remember, plain mayonaise sandwichand more unappetizing stuff. During Highschool, now only we have a clean airconditioned canteen, we have a branch of Greenwich inside the campus. I thinbk after I graduated, The greenwich branch closed down and turned into a cyber cafe.

imagine, it is supposed to be a private school and a public school looks cleaner than it is.

I have to say that while our food in our canteen at college was nice, it was not the healthiest thing that you could have picked. A lot of it was things like pizza and chips, or baguettes, which just aren't healthy at all. Now that I am at university, I have noticed that they are a lot better at putting healthy food out. There are always lots of vegetable options as well as a healthy salad bar for everyone who wishes to eat things like that. I am glad, because people deserve the have the option of eating a healthy diet if they wish to do so.

hello capt,
My elementary days I can remember I seldom visit the cafeteria because my granny always packed my snacks and lunch.
Most of the time she brings my lunch so the food is still warm.
I studied from different schools as I am kind of experimental (hehehe)
I spent few years at La Salle during my elementary days and transferred to another private school becoz I don't want to spend another year with grade 7.
The worst cafeteria so far is during my last 2 years in Highschool in our town.
Maybe because it's a province, thu the premises is clean.
Oh well- how's the office pantry anyway- all coffee flavors are there for sure
I miss my previous office pantry and the irate customers (hahaha)

I prefer packed lunches during elementary too cos the kitchen of the school were I studied is just gross. As I explained in my story above, its just untidy, then the Samalamig uses tap water. I also noticed the lanch ladies never fully washed the utensils, they just soak them in hot water, no detergent or dish washing liquid used. I saw mosquitos too.

Hahah.. i can't help but remember the good old days... when i was in my elementary years, my mom also would prepare packed lunch and snacks for us.. at that time, we were somewhat the obedient type so we dare not question what was prepared in the lunch box..
But when I was already in my high school years spec. 3rd year - i had my snacks in the cafeteria and for my lunch - my mom would often go the school and bring it to me.. what she doesn't know (until now) is that it was my classmate who actually ate it.. it's not because the food is not delicious.. it really is.. it's just because i prefer having junk foods + burger + soft drinks for lunch... made me realized that may have been the reason I was so slender then... hahah!

in college canteen it is hard to tell when we get good quality food and when we have to drink only water.it is like being lucky because the quality and taste of foods was very random.we can not predict when we get what.but most of time it was good and very tasty.
i think this the reason why i was spending my more college's time in canteen.

speaking of water, I exclusively drink spring water and distilled water, I dont drink the water in the school cafe cos its fresh from the faucet. both Elementary and Highschool, I am not comfortable drinking tap water.

I remember in elementary school we had good food in the canteen and very cheap during those days, it was a balanced meal too, you just give your lunch chit that you buy in advance and you get your meal, we often eat with our teachers and they would force us to finish the vegetables, there was also a time when we had "yayas" that brought lunch to me and my siblings.
High school food was also very good in the school where i transferred especially the burger steak and gravy that I still dream of to this day and wonder how they made it.
During my college days, it was no longer fashionable to bring packed lunch so must of the times we would eat out, I remember always buying a pot of kare-kare near our school and my close classmates and I would share the expenses , I would go home at times to my grandmother's house to eat there if I wanted to save money.

was their burger stake much better than Jollibee's? that you still dream of it, That sounds dreamy. I missed some specialties in my highschool canteen too, its real food. Plus its already discounted cos its part of the tuition. so I get to enjoy a meal. Its sad though that most students eats junkfood over real food.

Yeah I think that when we are young, what we loved always sticks, if I remember right, it was the Zaide group who managed the canteen during the 70's and made those burger steaks. When I was out of there, my cousin also studying in the same school told me that "Aristocrat" handled the canteen (not so sure), but it's in that level so believe me it was really good food, it's even talked about up to now in blogs and forums of people who studied there . I really think that we should decide what we eat honest Capt....
