SOme states place probationary conditions on drivers under 18, Ohio is one such state. These probation conditions apply differently from state to state. The best place to get information oin your situation is right from the Ohio DMV. I'm on the site right now and there is some information there. This is the section on special conditions for teen drivers in Ohio: http://www.bmv.ohio.gov/graduated_dl_teen_laws.stm This should give you the information you need.

Well, it happens to most of us when we first start driving! Ask if you can take a defensive driving class that will prevent you from getting points on your license. That way, your insurance won't skyrocket. If you go to court and they ask you why you were speeding tell them just what you told us, that it was a 5 second moment of inattention and you usually obey the laws. Judges like honesty and hate butt-kissing. Be respectful and say yes sir or yes ma'am when they talk to you. I'm sure you'll have to pay something, they rarely forgive tickets, but be sure to look into the driving class. Class is incredibly boring but you'll have a clean driving record!

I don't know about Ohio specifically, but a lot depends on the judge. Some judges are more lenient than others. That said, inexperienced drivers cause many more accidents when speeding than experienced drivers. You have to be very careful for a few years, not just to keep from getting a ticket, but to keep yourself and others safe. (That doesn't mean that you can speed a few years into the future - speed limits are set for a a reason.) A vehicle is a huge, dangerous machine and learning to drive one responsibly takes a lot of time.

Hi Cole, Welcome to Mylot. Well, all states vary to some degree but it would be common for you to have to pay a fine and yes, possibly lose your license for up to 3 months. I believe much depends on how much you were going above the speed limit. If this is all you have on your record, it won't be so bad. Your insurance might also go up a bit. If it is your first offense, just learn from it and be extra careful when you get your license back.

You'll probably just have to pay a fine and get points taking on your license. They won't take your license away unless you had more then 1 defense and since this is your first i think they'll be linient against you. Good luck.

Nothing. You will learn more and perhaps next time you drive around, you will be more careful not to repeat the same mistake.

Firs of all, if you want the privalage of driving, you need to follow the rules. If you don't pay the ticket, you will go to jail, or juvy. Also your license will not be taken away permanatly but you will be made to take a course of some sort and you won't be able to use your licence until things are settled in court. Because you are such a young driver and you have already broken the rules, there is a very good chance that you will have limited driving with many restrictions until you prove your worth as a driver again. I don't see why you needed to speed but I hope that you have learned your lesson and that you don't do it again. Good luck.

Well you should pay your ticket immediately. I don't believe they would take your license away over something as small as a speeding ticket. I live in Minnesota, I'm sure laws are different than they are in Ohio, but I have a friend who was going 25 miles over the speed limit (they call it reckless endangerment at that point, I do believe) and he just had to pay like a $200 ticket, and that was it. of course his insurance rate went WAY up after this, but he never had to go to jail or had his license taken away. I would look it up. Or call. How fast were you speeding by? There has got to be information on the Ohio State Patrol website or something that can help you out...
