Today, I was on the bus with my crutches. Two people who should have been sitting a couple seats down were sitting in chars marked for handicapped or elderly. Neither one got up and moved! The bus driver did not tell either of them to move. I ended up standing in extreme pain the entire bus ride. I did complain to the cta. I doubt it will do any good. Too many young people nowadays do not care about anyone but themselves. They see someone getting on the bus or train and refuse to move for those who really need the seats they are so rudely occupying. There are other seats they can sit in but do not! They will learn when they need the seat and no one moves for them the meaning of seats for the handicapped and disabled. If you are sitting in one of the seats that are marked that way and your healthy enough to get up and move or are healthy enough to sit somewhere else then do not occupy seats meant for those who really need it more than healthy young adults.

I agree that people of any age should not take those seats if they are healthy enough to sit somewhere else. I would never take a seat like that from someone who really needed it. I don't know how old you think a young person is but not all young people are disrespectful like that because I'm not. I have a lot of respect for all people. Thats how I was raised and thats how I am raising my children to be, respectful to all people. =)

There are a lot of nice people out there. There are those who are courteous and others who aren't. There have been times when I sit a couple seats behind, even with crutches, in case a wheel chair comes on.

people who are blessed should give special considerations to people who are handicapped. because it's one way of helping them in a way that someone cares to offer his/her seat for someone. this will also uplift their sense of belonging to the society they are in.

I would have point-blank (but politely) ASKED those people to give up their seat (pointing to the notice). Many people on public transport are so wrapped up in their own thoughts that they genuinely do not notice. If they refused, however, I would then tell the bus-driver (who is also supposed to represent the policy of his company) to ask them to give up their seats. If HE refused or was impolite, I would simply use one of my crutches to disable his steering wheel (as long as it was safe to do so), take his number and write a strong letter to the bus company and COPY it to the local newspaper/radio station/TV station.
I'm afraid that, sometimes, it is necessary to be direct and to the point when reminding others of their social duties and liabilities. You should certainly not be embarrassed to do so, especially where there are clear notices to support you.

This so upsetting.
How could those people ignore the sign and are they blind to see you with those crutches. :xxx
So bad, what is happening with the human race.
In our train, the security guard never allow any healthy people to occupy the seats that are meant for disabled and pregnant women.
This is a must- and the driver is also responsible since those seats are near the driver's side. (duh)

Hello desertrose16,
This is really upsetting.People really don't think of others these days.I also see lot of people occupying the ladies seats and ladies standing in the bus.I don't hesitate to ask those people to stand up whenever i see any lady standing there.I think its just due to hesitation ladies don't ask them but they should ask them politely there are some people who just take advantage of this.

Well i do think that is very rude. But i will say one thing you might look at me or even my boyfriend and htink we are healthy young adults. Well me right now im having trouble breathing and would like to sit down on a bus ride after a long days of work but i drive a car so i dont have to worry about such a thing now a days. Now you would look at my boyfriend and wouldnt notice anything at all, but he was in a bad motorcycle accident and actually walks with a limp so jsut by looks you cant go by that now a days because its not everything. There are alot of young people with health issues.
I do know that out of all the people on that bus sitting there should have been one person that should have moved for you no matter what though. I might have a health issue but i cant stand iwthout any problems at all and probably would have given you my seat.
