What a scare. I was cleaning around my computer tower again today and I looked on my screen and it was blank, & my computer tower, which is new, had no signs of life to it either. I went and checked all the plugs and all seemed to be in, except maybe the computer monitor one. So I cleaned off one side of my desk and adjusted it so it would maybe help the situation and poof! It went back on, thank goodness after giving me another scare. I think the cord is way too short. Do you think an extension cord could help?

Extension cord is a good solution in such problems.
Just make sure that the hardware you purchase has some standard certification.Like CE or ISO etc.:)

I have another tower in the way and so that doesn't help either but it's a long story why I still keep that other tower there even when I don't use it, It jus tgets in the way though that I might remove it eventually, the problem is where else to place it as this room is full of computers now that don't work or are too old, at least three of them now. One is my first computer I ever had and is ancient.

if your gonna run an extension cord make sure it is the proper gauge, a 12 gauge will definitely do the job, but a 14 gauge should be adequate. But to be honest I don't think you even need an extension cord.

Oh dear all those plugs and cords scare the life out of me, I recently had to take my computer to my techys place and had to take everything over to his place, so I had to unplug everything, that is the easy part but I asked him if he could come back with me when it is fixed so he could plug everything back because I just don't have a clue with all that... was a good chance to clean all around the computer area, it gets so dirty there..

Well, you know extension chord is the danger part of the computer to be damage or create trouble. If the extension chord will partly damage...be sure to change it a new one and the computer is running again. But if the motherboard will be burn up or having trouble. You can't simply find out the trouble but to change the whole system to make it good again...

I'm pretty sure it isn't the motherboard. I was so scared at first this last time that it was something like that, cause I really didn't check to see if the monitor picture was on before I decided to do some cleaning (on the carpeting), but I took the clutter off the desk so I could check the cord of the monitor and it just went on, the tower and everything. Thank goodness.

Are both the monitor and the tower plugged to a wall socket? If they are, how far is the socket from your PC? As I see it, you have two options. You could either move your PC/monitor nearer to the socket or get an extension cord. Just make sure the extension cord is appropriate for the current that would run through it to your PC. Any electrical or computer shops can recommend the size of the cord. You might also want to consider those extension cords that have individual on/off switches per outlet. All these may sound complicated but they aren't actually. It's just that I'm not that good in explaining this stuff :)

You explained it perfectly beamer, I know there has to be an easy solution. I hate having to clean just due to the fact this happens too often. I just need to move some of the computer stuff around so that this new tower reaches the table where the monitor is without interferance.
