The putting down of homeless pets?

How do you feel about unwanted homeless pets being put to down. I believe people should have a license to own a pet and all pets should be spayed to avoid the problem of over population which results in homeless pets which needs to be put down. Your thoughts on this?

I don't want to sound as a pet hater or something, but I think putting down strays is necessary to protect the balance of things and prevent overpopulation. Uncared for pets roaming around could also pose some form of danger to us especially if these pets are hungry. I mean, dogs for example are still meat-eaters. If they can't find food, they might attack other animals, or worst, attack us.
