Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become very attractive, rich and famous?

Somebody on facebook asked me this question and it really had me thinking. Do I value my time here on earth more, or would I rather live a shorter life that is more filled with all the material pleasures that life has to offer?

Well, we do what we do to become attractive, rich and famous. Sometimes it seems we would labor for years on end only to notice than when we do get famous and rich (perhaps attractive if you're that lucky), we're already old and don't have the energy for the cares we would have wanted, like a good adventure in a foreign land, or something. What good would riches serve if we can hardly get off our seats, much more our houses? It would be wasted, probably just to spoil our sons.
So if it (they) will come to me today, I would gladly take it. For heaven knows I will be spending more than 10 years otherwise just slaving for it.

It's not about being materialistic. There are some experiences you can only have when you have money. And not all fame is shallow. There are those who has works hard just to be recognized, like scientists or artists.
Most famous artists weren't recognized during their time. It's a sad thought. Vincent Van Gogh killed himself, probably from depression. Wouldn't you think 10 years of his life is too much to give for some fame?

It doesn't really seem to be worth it. The price of fame and riches can perhaps shorten my life by ten years without taking ten years off of the top. I never really saw the attraction of being well known. It just opens up your life to everyone. I enjoy my privacy and just kicking back and really not having to bother with what other people think about me.
I think that what meaning we get out of our life when we have it is more important than any fame or any riches. Those who make the most out of little really do have it more together than those who have a lot but really don't understand a lot about life. At least that is what I think it is going to be. Fame is really not worth it in the end, there are a lot of drawbacks that a person from the outside looking in can even see.

It is a good question, Darren. As to me, I would not be willing to reduce my life expectancy by ten years with those offered to me. I think material life is less important than life expectancy. I would rather live longer to enjoy more of the world with just enough money to support my life and enjoy a good health. I love longevity better. Take care.
